It might be that I'm a little jaded by my 11 week run around with American Airlines in seeking a refund for a ticket I purchased for my Mother, but I'm with Mitt Romney.

I submitted three refund requests (October 25, November 5 and November 10) to American without a response.

On November 17, I contacted Customer Relations and received instructions from Terrance G. Bailey on canceling the ticket and submitting the death certificate.

The ticket was canceled and the death certificate faxed on November 21.

On December 7, The Refund web site advised that there "may be some correspondence or other activity associated" with my request.

On December 14, I received an e-mail from Pat Reeves addressed "To Whom It May Concern" (even though I put my name on all contacts with the company) and it requested a written explanation along with a copy of the death certificate.

It took a week to send an e-mail?

On December 15, I let the American Refund Department know they were incompetent, as they had received the death certificate on November 21 and had finally begun processing the request, I also called them inconsiderate and insensitive.

What the hell kind of written explanation is needed regarding death?

I had copied Customer Relations on the December 15 correspondence and received an automatic response on December 19 that included a reference number and stated, "The Customer Relations team are eager to resolve issues that arise in the hope of seeing you fly American Airlines again and again".

On December 29, I received the same exact correspondence from Pat Reeves as I received on December 7.

That's further proof of incompetence and is likely a canned response with a fictitious name.

My wife put the story on the American Airlines Facebook page and has not received a response there, even though American has responded to almost every other post after hers, even to people that called them "...holes".

Because I've done time in the customer service industry, I go out of my way to compliment people who do a good job in their service to me. I often ask for their manager to let them know how pleased I am, most managers don't know how to react because they only hear the negative.

I was originally advised it would take 4 to 6 weeks, but I have received no further communications from American.

I am extremely disappointed in American Airlines, but this is not over!

I ended up not caucusing for Rick Santorum, but for the most part I like the guy.

Both our Dad's dads were Italian immigrants who, once in this country, worked in the coal mines.

However, an interview he did with Dave Price makes Santorum come across as disingenuous.

Santorum stated, "The bank account isn't particularly hefty this year" and that because he's out on the road he's "not making a lot of money".

Santorum earned $1.3 million between January 2010 and August 2011.

The court granted an early termination of his probation in March 2007 because, Thorsen promised to reenlist.

Polk County has currently assessed the property at 25,950,000, but a Homemakers-paid assessor testified that he thinks the current market makes the building worth $9.05 million. The Homemakers President testified that he puts its value between $10 million and $12 million.

The issue I have is that Homemakers became a part of Nebraska Furniture Mart in 2000 and Nebraska Furniture Mart is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, who hasn't paid what it’s already owed for years in taxes to the IRS.

Romney's results were the exact same as four years ago.

Michele Bachmann -- 3.

Another precinct caucused in the same building and I was able to obtain their results.

This precinct saw an increase from their 2008 turnout of 82 participants, with a total of 103.

Ron Paul -- 29.

Which was 20 more votes than four years ago.

Rick Santorum -- 22.

Newt Gingrich -- 22.

Mitt Romney -- 17.

That's 6 fewer votes than in 2008.

Chris and I have come to the conclusion we're going to Caucus for Mitt Romney tomorrow night.

I had been leaning towards Rick Santorum, since Tim Pawlenty dropped out after the Straw Poll, but I was never comfortable with the drubbing he took in his 2006 Senate re-election bid.

I started moving towards Romney in an effort to stop Ron Paul from winning on Tuesday.

I then vacillated, or waffled, between Santorum and Romney from day to day and figured I would decide after judging the strength of Paul in my precinct.

I became completely comfortable with Romney because of this ad --

“When generations of immigrants looked up and saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time, one thing they knew beyond any doubt … is they were coming to a place where anything was possible; that in America, their children would have a better life.

Six winners of a contested New Hampshire primary have gone on to win the White House; Dwight Eisenhower in 1952, John Kennedy in 1960, Richard Nixon in 1968, Jimmy Carter in 1976, Ronald Reagan in 1980 and George H. W. Bush in 1988.

That makes Finney cornier than Huntsman.

Christmas

This holiday first became less joyous for me in 1975.

It was 10 months after the loss of my Grandfather, my Dad's Dad, and it didn't seem right to celebrate without him.

That feeling deepened in 1978 when my Father wasn't alive to bring home the Christmas tree.

Now, a mere two months since my Mother's death (Letting Go), I find myself going through the motions.

I grieve for them.

I grieve for thee.

I grieve for what was.

I grieve for what can never be.

I know time will ease the pain, but it will always hurt.

It is extremely difficult to watch someone die, but I draw comfort knowing that I was there at the end for both of my parents.

I wish everyone had the chance to say their final goodbyes and I wish that no one would die alone.

She said she didn't want to come down.

I guess it was her practice flight with the Angels.

When you've played football as long as these guys have, you're aware of the risks.

Look at Ronnie Lott --

Late in the 1985 season, he was involved in such a brutal hit on running back Tim Newsome that it literally tore off parts of Lott's left pinky. Legend has it that part of his skin and bone fragments were left on the field. He played the rest of the game, taped it up for the next (and final) game of the season and played that one too.

Then, in the off-season he faced the choice of intricate finger surgery and possibly missed playing time, or amputation of the tip of his finger. He chose amputation and played on for six more years.

Finally, I think I would have found someone other than Jamal Lewis (pictured in his mug shot) to be part of the lawsuit, after all Lewis was charged with conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms of cocaine in 2004.

Iowa's Capitol City was among those cities surveyed by AP that reported costs of less than $10,000.

The CONgressional supercommittee's time is up this week and in reality it was set to fail from the beginning.

I did get a chuckle out of recent testimony to the committee from members of the group Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength asking CONgress to increase their taxes.

These fat cats came to the attention of the press thanks to The Wise Ass (Oops) Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett.

I've known for the past five years that David Goodner (pictured) is a "Dumbass", now he's made more people aware of what a real moron he is.

Police arrest one protester, others file complaint against bank

Goodner, and a few of his Occupy-err friends, wanted to read a letter inside Wells Fargo accusing the institution of using predatory lending practices, financing private prisons and avoiding fair taxes.

Police said the off-duty officers working in the bank allowed Goodner to enter to hand the letter to a bank official.

According to authorities, officers asked him several times to leave b ut he refused and resisted arrest. He was charged with trespass, interference with official acts, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Goodner acknowledged being determined to finish reading the letter but said he stopped resisting once he realized uniformed police officers were trying to arrest him.

Once again some, about 30, University of Iowa students are concerned about the use of coal on campus.

Students urge UI to move beyond coal

May of 2010 was the last time I noted such a concern (Not Now?).

These students presented a petition with more than 3,300 signatures from students, faculty and community members asking the university to stop using coal.

“When we started talking with administrators, right away they told us that for them to take us seriously, we had to show we had broad student support,” said UI senior Meredith Place.

“We went out and collected more than 3,000 signatures from all the people who want to see this change,” Place said. “We did our part; now it’s their turn to fulfill their end of the deal.”

This fall the University of Iowa had a total enrollment of 30,893.

That hardly qualifies as "broad student support", and the scientific community is united in that fact, especially when faculty and the community were figured in the 3,300 signatures.
