School Days

God Help the parents and students of the Tucson United School District, because they've hired Liz Celania-Fagen away from the Des Moines Public Schools.

Tucson-ites have been checking out Iowas Newz Liter for the lowdown on Ms. Celenia-Fagen since she became a finalist for superintendent there.

Liter led them to her philosophy regarding students who don't complete High School in four years...

"We felt like it was a sort of walk of shame for students who didn't earn enough credits to be reclassified as freshmen again. We want all students to work towards their goals, and if that takes them a bit longer, that's O.K. But we don't want them discouraged by processes and procedures that we have".

That's why we have DEVOLUTION, the dumbing down of America and the scientific community is united in that fact.

For her feel good type of philosophy Celenia-Fagen will earn between $185,000-$230,000 annually as well as a benefits package up to $50,000.

That's a bit of a bump from her current $102,802.

For my money, I'd want someone more like Joe Clark...HAIL, HAIL!

"Up in the mornin’ and out to school
The teacher is teachin’ the golden rule
American history and practical math
You studyin’ hard and hopin’ to pass
Workin’ your fingers right down to the bone...."

What Dr. Celania-Fagen said makes perfect sense. Allowing kids additional time to finish high school is an excellent solution when compared to the alternative - never earning a diploma. I don't see the connection between that and your "dumbing down America." Dr. Celania-Fagen did not suggest lightening the course load.
Tucson is extremely fortunate to be welcoming Dr. Celania-Fagen. She is obviously brilliant and will be a phenomenal asset to Tucson Unified School District. Everyone here is wishing Dr. Celania-Fagen's contract could have been effective immediately!
