First Earth Day

I remember taking part in this celebration? It was 1970 and a junior high socialist science class I was in decided we would paint trash barrels and set them up in the neighborhood around school. We were allowed class time for this project and of course we painted them funky, remember this was the age of original tie dye, earth day colors. I recall some sort of symbol too, a diamond I believe. The irony was we SPRAY PAINTED them! Damn the depletion of the ozone from aerosol cans.
