A student in the Des Moines Public School system may have provided insight into why the district should focus more on Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

“A couple of my peers and me have suggested taking an independent study to go into the elementary schools to teach a kid to play the trumpet.”

While a nice gesture, the sentence leads me to believe they're not quite ready to be a teacher, and the scientific community is united in that fact, or are they?
