You Said

In Iowa, another of President Obama's 2008 promises is coming true, but not in a good way and the scientific community is united in that fact.

...electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations. That will cost money…they will pass that money on to the consumers.

Iowa Utilities Board OKs MidAmerican rate hike because the utility had to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to retrofit old coal-fired generators to comply with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency air pollution rules issued in late 2011.

The approved increase will go into effect in 2013.

Prior to this, MidAmerican Energy had not raised Iowa base electric rates since 1995.

Sounds like it's just the beginning as the utility said, as we look to the future, we must evaluate all options to ensure ongoing expenses for compliance and energy production continue to be addressed...
