The Past IS Prologue

Here's a couple of final thoughts on Joe Biden from the debate.

I thought he was suffering another aneurysm, or being Max Headroom, when he stumbled over characterization.

On one hand Biden said "the surge will not work" in Afghanistan and seconds later stated "we need more troops in Afghanistan."

A surge is an increase in troops and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Biden "quoted" General David McKiernan...

"...our commanding general in Afghanistan said the surge principle in Iraq will not work in Afghanistan, not Joe Biden, our commanding general in Afghanistan."

Here's the take on that from National Public Radio (NPR), a far from conservative voice...

General David McKiernan, the US commander in Afghanistan this week said "Afghanistan is not Iraq. .. What I don't think is needed -- the word I don't use in Afghanistan is the word surge."

On the other hand, speaking today, McKiernan said more troops should be rushed to Afghanistan "as quickly as possible." So while he doesn't believe in using the word surge because it resonates of Iraq, he does believe in rushing more troops to Afghanistan -- a surge by another name.

Lastly, while trying to appear folksy Biden said...

"...all you have to do is go down Union Street with me in Wilmington or go to Katie's Restaurant..."

Here's what they thought of that in Wilmington Delaware...

"For a guy running as an in-touch-with-real-people candidate, it's hard to believe he not only referenced a restaurant that has been closed for nearly 20 years, but he also got the location wrong!"

Biden being Biden!
