Vote Smart?

Polk County is going to be spending $50,000 to help Des Moines high school students get hands on experience voting in elections.

The grant is for mock elections and is from the United States Election Assistance Commission.

It appears they recommended a funding level of $49,293.

The program will incorporate social media such as Blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and e-mail and text communications to educate and update students on the election process. Students will be trained online through the innovative use of video-game simulations...

That's a hell of a lot more sophisticated than the tissue box I made into a ballot box (using my own construction paper) for my 5th grade classes participation in the 1968 Presidential election, of course that didn't cost tax payers $50,000.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just Rock the Vote?

A prize will be awarded to the school with the highest voter participation and there's even talk of a pizza party.

For $50,000 a full time person could be hired to go around to every school in the metro and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I'm through mocking now.
