Overkill

CommieTommie Harkin wants to use a sledge hammer to kill a cockroach. That's my take on his reaction to the loss of personal information of 26.5 million U.S. veterans that was on a stolen Department of Veterans Affairs computer. Harkin, along with comrade John Kerry, are sponsoring legislation to provide one year of credit monitoring as well as one free credit report for two years after the monitoring is completed. Everyone is already eligible for yearly free credit reports from the three credit bureaus, so that piece isn't necessary! We're not even sure there's a problem of identity theft yet. Plus, there are already ways to handle stolen identity and fraud. Per Harkin, the estimated cost of this legislation could be as high as $1.25 BILLION!!! Harkin and Kerry are spending tax dollars like a couple of drunken sailors! I can still hear the great voice of the late Senator Everett Dirksen (R/Illinois) when he said, "A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon it adds up to real money."
