Colbert, Comedy..have you met?

Stephen Colbert, of Comedy Central's Colbert Report, was the main entertainment--in his mind--at last night's White House Correspondent's Dinner. My wife and I caught it on C-Span, after movie DVD's, and it was painful. We both sat there in silence, hearing only polite laughter coming from those there. The only real laughter came from Antonin Scalia when Colbert sent a slew of Italian hand gestures his way, stating he was just speaking Sicilian with his Paisan. His ending taped skit with Helen Thomas went on way too long. To quote Colbert, "NOOOOOOOO"! The highlight of the evening was President Bush, He took one podium while a Bush impersonator took another. The president did the speech straight faced and the impersonator was obviously Bush's inner voice saying what he really feels. The impersonator, Steve Bridges, started with "The media really ticks me off the way they try to embarrass me by not editing what I say. Well, let's get things going, or I'll never get to bed." the president followed with, "I'm absolutely delighted to be here, as is Laura," Bridges then quipped, "She's hot". They naturally went on to poke fun at the president's malaprops, such as nuclear. The president closed with a bit about how Bridges has actually played him in his debates with Kerry and scolded him about messing up in the first one. The president outperformed the so called comedian.
