Jay Carney may have said it, I'm going to shuck and jive! Time to shuck and jive, but that's how this White House operates from the top down.

So it continues with Stimulus lite, the $447 billion program (so far) to create jobs right away and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The Associated Press found not all of the president's major proposals are likely to yield quick job growth if adopted.

Obama's jobs plan paid for? Seems not

Obama also proposed more spending on roads, bridges, school construction and other infrastructure.

That was to have been addressed with the first stimulus, I opined on that September 4, 2009 (A Bridge Too Far?).

Here's what CONgressman Leonard BOZO-well said then -- "The need to strengthen our nation's infrastructure to create jobs, modernize our transportation network, improve efficiency and enhance safety is there, and it is urgent."

What happened?

The AP found most states are spending stimulus money on bridges that are already in good shape.

Just last fall, Joe Biden claimed in our state, many of those jobs are tied to 30,000 road, bridges, runway, fiber optic cable projects have been started across the country, including 400 in Iowa.

I'm reminded of what Ronald Reagan said back in 1964, the more the plans fail, the more the planners plan.

The Hustle

The Associated Press (AP) previously reported that President Obama's American Jobs Act (AJA), or Stimulus lite, would not yield quick job growth if adopted.

Now the AP notes, it won't last.

"Beginning in 2013, and certainly into 2014, the plan is a drag on the economy because the stimulus starts fading away. So by 2015, the economy is in the same place as now, as if there were no jobs package."

In addition, the rosy scenario of adding as many as 1.9 million jobs, and bring the unemployment rate down by a full percentage point was based on an assumption that "the president's entire package is passed by the end of the year" and also "assumed that it would be paid for".

Which the AP had earlier disputed (Obama's jobs plan paid for? Seems not)

Plus, the forecast does not leave any room for a new recession. If that happens, all bets are off.

AJA?

The American Jobs Act (AJA), or Stimulus lite as I'm calling it, is to be sent to Congress today, after a Rose Garden ceremony.

I beg your pardon, but if it's so damn important that
"Congress should pass this bill right now", then Obama should have had it with him to give to Congress when he addressed them last week and the scientific community is united in that fact.

He called for a school modernization program (will it result in more jobs than the Seattle weatherization program that cost $22 million and produced 14 jobs?) and for funding more teacher jobs (a political payoff to the teacher unions which together with other unions gave Democrats $400 million in the 2008 campaign cycle).

“We’ll set up an independent fund to attract private dollars and issue loans based on two criteria: how badly a construction project is needed and how much good it would do for the country.” Yeah, sure. Like the screening process that produced that $535,000,000 loan guarantee to now-bankrupt Solyndra.

And Congress should pass the free trade agreements with Panama, Colombia and South Korea. Except that Congress can’t, because Obama hasn’t sent them up there yet in his 961 days as president.

The only jobs numbers were --

An estimated $385.9 million for Iowa highway and transit modernization projects, supporting a “minimum of 5,000 local jobs.”

$132.6 million to modernize Iowa’s schools, an effort that would support as many as 1,700 jobs.

The Obama administration has gone from jobs created or saved to supporting(?) jobs.

We all support jobs, and the scientific community is united in that fact, we just can't afford this phony jobs plan.

the overall AJA plan will cost $250,000 per job created (excluding the interest expense) and $312,500 per union job, er job created (including interest).

I won't pay, I won't pay...YA!

CommieTommie tells the President to “Go bigger” on his $447 billion jobs plan.

At a cost of $230,000 to create each new job, it's too big already CommieTommie and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Obama, as of Friday, still hadn't even formally submitted the bill to Congress (according to Chris Cillizza).

You can't pass NOW what you don't have, that was supposed to have been done on Monday.

Per the President, AJA, will add as many as 1.9 million jobs, and bring the unemployment rate down by a full percentage point.

That's depressing.

Even more depressing, since the Great Depression, recessions in America have lasted ten months on average, with the longest lasting 16 months. The recession America is currently in has stretched over 45 months.
