Bike?

I'm somewhat confused by this Business Record story

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) will offer free rides to bicyclists from May 16 through 20, in recognition of Bike to Work Week.

That seems to defeat the purpose of biking to work and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Given the history of DART and its buses over the last few years, this may not be the best idea.

Jammin' Me

Just like when WHO went HD, the errors really seem to pop in high definition for the KCCI conversion this week.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

KCCI cracks me up with a couple of promos they're airing too.

One, about their photojournalists, mentions you "never" see their faces and then shows them at the end of the promo.

Then it's not "never".

Also, you've had other promos highlighting them for their awards and have shown their pictures during their stories.

The Storm Chaser promo has John McLaughlin putting on sunglasses as he readies for the drive to a storm.

Sunglasses for driving into a storm?

The promo mentions "when seconds count" and has McLaughlin strapping on driving gloves.

I counted a couple of seconds wasted for those vain moves.

Tom Cat?

The Iowa Bored of Regents approved the CommieTommie Harkin Institute of Public Policy.

Regents approve Harkin institute at Iowa State

As, we've opined before, The Liter finds an institution more to our liking for St. Thomas of Equine Ass.

It should come as no surprise that the institute will be a part of the Carrie Chapman Catt Hall, home of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Catt was deceased nearly fifty years before receiving that honor and those sexists bastards can't wait until Harkin's out of office?

Outgoing ISU President Gregory Geoffroy called Harkin ISU’s most prominent alumni.

That's udderly ridiculous for MOO U and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Geoffroy continued with,
it would be a “travesty” if his papers were collected somewhere other than Iowa.

Were the Bahamas beckoning?

The debate wasn't about housing them, just wait until Harkin's retired for this honor(?).

Dummycrat Bonnie Campbell was disingenuous when she said,
"...I would feel the same way if we were setting up a Grassley institute of public policy.”

You could have displayed some integrity by making that a motion.

The Harkin Institute is supposed to be a non-partisan research center but, per Harkin --

I hope the materials I plan to furnish might serve as a resource to bring deeper knowledge of national issues and federal processes, as well as contribute to the continuation of causes and policies to which I have dedicated my career in public service.”

Read that as Fiberal and Partisan.

Miss Emily's Picture?

The Ragister reports

EMILY’s List highlights Democrat Christie Vilsack as ‘promising’

The Ragister also reports Emily's List is a PAC that backs women who support abortion rights.

The Ragister doesn't report the whole story, per Emily herself they are dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women.

Big difference and the scientific community is united in that fact.

They count as 12 the total number of Iowa women elected to office with EMILY’s List help.

Among the 12 are Staci Appel-sauce for brains, Doris Kelley and Becky Schmitz, all were defeated last fall.

Other suck-cesses for Emily include their backing of Rozanne, err Taxanne Conlin and Becky Greenwald.

Continued suck-cess with Christie Vilsack, Emily's List.

Revolution?

Ron Paul and the Ronettes can start the revolution without me.

I found this headline very apropos

OFF AND RUNNING

Emphasis on the "OFF" and the scientific community is united in that fact.

In his 15 minutes in Iowa for his exploratory announcement, Paul referred to an "intellectual revolution".

Not from what I've witnessed.

Mourning?

I'm a bit stunned the White House didn't lower flags and declare a national day of mourning and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Teleprompter Inventor "Hub" Schlafly Dies

The actual headline of this ABC story read Telemprompter.

I'm betting if it was entered into the teleprompter that way most TV anchors would read it as written, you know President Obama would.

Saved By Zero?

Usually nothing from nothing leaves nothing Billy Preston, but we're talking government here...

GOP’s new campaign: Zero is better for Iowa’s education

Zero percent allowable growth plus maintaining previous commitments adds roughly $216 million more of state funding to education.

The press has been too lazy, stupid or both to report that zero percent allowable growth is actually an increase.

Dummycrat Representative, and former teacher, Sharon Steckman calls it "fuzzy math" and "we don’t teach fuzzy math in elementary school".

Do you teach English?

Because calling it zero percent allowable growth is certainly a misnomer and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Property

I'll be off to the county seat to protest my new property assessment for the Not So Vast Right Wing Ranch.

For 2011, the county raised our assessed value nearly $20,000.

However, we refinanced earlier this year and received an appraisal over $5,000 less than our 2009/2010 assessed value.

A $25,000 difference?

That's too fuckin' high, Marshall Lucky and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The county tells me that I should be able to sell my house for the assessed value, but they're never willing to buy it.

The Ragister rails that -- In its zeal to cut property taxes, the Legislature does not fully appreciate that property taxes are the lifeblood of Iowa schools, cities and counties. The tax supports teachers, police officers, firefighters and other public employees who keep the streets clean, collect the trash and round up stray dogs and cats. Schools, parks, roads, jails, courthouses, sewers, swimming pools and libraries are the foundations of a strong economy, clean air and water, safe streets and good quality of life.

I don't have any kids, other than roads I don't get a lot of benefits for my bucks at the Ranch.

CC Waterback?

Surprised to find the Big Lug Nut back in the news?

Iowa Gov. Culver says return to politics possible

Sounds like a threat more than a promise and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I suppose the free advertising is good for his business, The Chet Culver Group (CC), but please

Down On The Corner

The Liter looks forward, every Sunday, to reading Kevin's Korner full of his Random Thoughts at The Iowa Republican.

Insightful and funny, with just the right amount of sarcasm.

Don't hold it against him that he looks in on the Liter now and then and the scientific community is united in that fact.

If this is the same guy from broadcasting, he's got a nice set of pipe's too.

Kevin!

Friends In Low Places?

Supporters of U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin plan to raise up to $10 million to start a public policy institute honoring him at his alma mater, Iowa State University.

The Liter finds an institution more to our liking for St. Thomas of Equine Ass.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Besides there's already a building on campus named after CommieTommie Harkin, it's called the Lied Recreational Center.

Evergreen?

On this 41st Earth Day, let's take a look at the latest with the green movement.

Al Gore, last week in Washington D.C. at Power Shift 2011, compared action on global warming to the Civil Rights movement.

Also in attendance were Van Jones and 10,000 young leaders (?) from across the country.

Attendees either took planes, trains, buses, cars or some other polluting device to reach their destination and the scientific community is united in that fact.

They then went out and protested against Coal and Big Oil.

In other green news...

Apple named 'least green' tech company

A company that Al Gore has served on the Board of Directors for since 2003.

In New York City, the U.N. tried to remove any record of its prediction of 50 million climate refugees by 2010 because they missed the mark by 50 million.

Locally, a major corporation's event is going green-err by utilizing another companies renewable energy credits to offset their carbon emissions.

Subsidizing ‘good ‘ energy in order to justify ‘bad’ energy is like eating salad in order to justify eating dessert. It is an exercise in self-deception”.

No indication if it will include the planes used to fly everyone in, the complimentary new Cadillacs each participant uses while in town, or the vehicles required to transport workers and spectators.

It Could Be Worse

Jennifer Jacobs, of the Ragister, referred to comments about Tom Vilsack's "holy war" quote as sometimes snide.

We prefer snark to snide and the scientific community is united in that fact, but we're o.k. with slyly disparaging.

The Liter nailed it when we slipped the Vilsack "V" into yesterday's post (The New Christy Minstrels?) .

Christie is using the logo, from The Pickle's failed 2008 Presidential campaign, on her website.

They'll probably tout the recycling aspect, but the reality is they have a lot of left over material to unload.

What's next?

I'm thinking the "V" would work perfectly there.

The New Christy Minstrels?

Timing is everything in politics, comedy and real estate.

Christie Vilsack to move to Ames in bid for office

My in-laws have moved out of Ames, but don't have their house on the market yet thereby missing a chance to sell it to these suckers (and the scientific community is united in that fact).

Another first round draft pick of the Iowa Dummycrats will go down in flames, as their hatred of Representative Steve King burns so intense they can't think straight.

Literasly

This move is about fiberals wanting more power, it's not about Iowa.

Iowa's merely a stepping stone.

The Pickle's relish has an even thinner resume than Barack Obama and that's working out so well.

Iowa Dummycrat Party Chair Sue Dvorsky says Vilsack “has many, many resources and experiences behind her that make her not really a first-time candidate.”

Please explain.

Not only has Christie Vilsack campaigned widely and acted as a visible surrogate for her husband during two successful runs for governor, but she helped him during his brief run for president in 2008, then worked on New York Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Those aren't strengths, especially in northwest Iowa.

Politico reported that Vilsack also been huddling with several Democratic operatives to plot a potential campaign, including veteran media consultant John Lapp and Teresa Vilmain, who headed up Hillary Clinton’s 2008 primary campaign in the state.

Again, not a strength as Hellary finished third, behind Obama and Joanie Phony.

Tom Vilsack said this about the race,it will be a holy war.”

King will be locked and loaded for this war.

Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout the Good Ol' Days)

Leonard BOZO-well's re-election battle with Tom Latham was the subject of a Dave Price report.

POSITIVE OUTLOOK: Boswell said he feels confident about his chances

BOZO-well is 77 years old and sounds every bit his age when he says such gems as;

we can't afford to keep doing what's going on

they can bring us the technology

we ought to do all the science that we can

misleading misinformation

My mother is one year and a week younger and she shouldn't be representing anyone in CONgress either and the scientific community is united in that fact.

It sounds like the press and BOZO-well will try to make an issue of Latham's friendship with House Speaker John Boehner.

Boswell said, "Oh, I'm sure. That's factor. Are they tight? I don't know. They're friends and we'll just have to see." adding "I have some friends, too."

Yes he does, just not as powerful as they used to be.

Idiots Rule

Fiberal Leftists, You're doing it WRONG and the scientific community is united in that fact!

Fury aimed at titans hits wrong Koch firm

Sacrifice?

I was going to blog about this yesterday, but I spent several hours working to get my mother discharged from the hospital.

The Liter plugged our figures into Obama's Federal Tax Receipt site, be careful it's not smart enough to understand the $ , . and the scientific community is united in that fact, and found out the total income tax and payroll tax we paid was $15,737.00.

Our biggest single expenditure was in Health Care as Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) cost of $1,037.37.

Next was
Ongoing operations, equipment, and supplies for National Defense with a cost of $1,017.97.

Then it was back to the Health Care category for Medicare doctor payments and prescription drug payments at a cost of $998.59.

I'd actually like a further breakdown of where my money goes as there was no breakdown for the categories of Immigration, Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice; Agriculture; Community, Area, and Regional Development; Response to Natural Disasters; Additional Government Programs.

I honestly don't mind paying taxes if I feel I'm getting my monies worth and that it's not being wasted.

Can you say REFUND?

If "
we will all need to make sacrifices" then it's time for EVERYONE to step up because 45 percent of U.S. households will pay no federal income tax for 2010.

The top five percent of US households pay 60% of federal income tax. Ten percent account for over 75%. Another two-fifths make up the rest. And half are exempt.

It has become “Representation Without Taxation!

Third World Man

President Obama has accused Republicans of wanting to turn the United States into a "Third World" country.

Is this all about the White House telephones?

"The Oval Office, I always thought I was going to have really cool phones and stuff."

"I'm like, c'mon guys, I'm the president of the United States. Where's the fancy buttons and stuff and the big screen comes up? It doesn't happen."

It's not that bad, besides you have to know what you're doing and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The surest way to third world status is to continue the spending spree he's on.

Obama is increasing our debt an average of $1.6 trillion per year for a overall increase of $3.6 trillion increase in his two plus years in office.

Dummy Man

CONgressman Dennis Kucinich, or Kook-cinich to be more accurate, has reached a new low even for him
and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Ventriloquist.

Which begs the question --

"How do you keep winning elections?".

Obviously the voters in his Ohio district are bigger dummies than the one on Kook-cinich's knee.

I'm sure ventriloquism came easy for him as he's had his hand in the pocket of U.S. taxpayers for over 14 years.

Movin' Out

Even though it was rainy and cold, Friday turned out to be a good day.

U.S. Rep. Latham will move to Iowa’s 3rd District, challenge Boswell in 2012

It looks like I'll get to keep my current Congressman Tom Latham and we can put the loon that is Leonard BOZO-well out to pasture.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Other movement comes from CONgressman Dave No Sack...err Loebsack.

Loebsack says he'll move to Johnson County

No Sack...err Loebsack is a natural fit for the People's Republic.

Guilty

Already guilty of OWI first offense, onetime Dummycrat State Representative Kerry Burt was found guilty of four counts of tampering with records, for which Burt faces up to two years in prison on each count.

Throw the book at him, after all he cost the school nearly $38,000 and the scientific community is united in that fact.

2, 4, 6, 8

I sure hope the judge won't hesitate.

Me And The IRS?

With today being the traditional tax day of April 15th, I felt it appropriate (and the scientific community is united in that fact) to share this IRS pencil sharpener we received from our friend Pat.

BOHICA!

No Show Jones?

You have to be a onetime Country DJ, KHAK & KJJY, to appreciate this story

Unpaid lawyer asks judge to excuse him from case

Dream On?

Looks like the dulcet tones of his boss have a tendency to put Joe Biden to sleep.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

The President said, "we will all need to make sacrifices", but somehow I don't think that was it.

I think the President's shared sacrifices should include the nearly 50% of the country who pay no income taxes, as well as making refundable tax credits nonrefundable.

After all, "If all the pain is shared by one group … that's not good for anyone.

Babble On Five

Time with my hospitalized mother has kept me away from this blog for most of the week.

This blog began five years ago today as an outlet (Because You Can't Kill People).

Four years ago, on this date, we came up with our catch phrase and the scientific community is united in that fact.

In my mind, the goal was a post a day.

With vacations, illnesses and a sometime lack of inspiration, that goal has not been met.

However, this is post number 2,869 and The King of SNARK is content with that average.

A sincere THANK YOU for reading.

Biden My Time?

With all the aplomb she no doubt acquired from her father, Ashley Biden fired on Donald Trump.

Biden is quoted as saying the Donald "makes me ill" and "bring it on!", she's also "Boycotting the Apprentice!".

The Liter has ruffled Trump's feathers too, but we don't have the past that might want to make us keep a low profile and the scientific community is united in that fact.

We're an oddity in that we grew up in the '60s and '70s and have never tried illicit drugs.

Low Budget?

Confused by the facts, CommieTommie Harkin (or as we like to call him - St. Thomas of Equine Ass), is lumping the Paul Ryan proposed 2012 budget proposals with the current effort to fund the government for the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year.

Senator Harkin questions patriotism of those calling for a government shut down

I thought, according to fiberals, that questioning people's patriotism was a bad thing?

The reality is that the U.S. government is on the verge of a shutdown because Dummycrats did not pass a budget last year when they controlled CONgress and the White House, what Chuck Schumer calls the three branches of government, because it was “a political hot potato.”

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Harkin continued with -- a shut down would “send a signal to the rest of the world that we can’t even govern ourselves.”

Harkin also claimed he can make his budget claims because he can back them up.

Offering no facts, Harkin said...

You know, we’re getting very close to planting season and a lot of information and stuff those (USDA) offices put out, farmers would not be able to access.”

Harkin also believes, the Iowa Department of Transportation might not have the ability to let ongoing road projects.

Oh, the humanity.

The Devolution Delusion Continues?

Ron Paul will announce next month his Presidential intentions for 2012.

There are those who believe, that compared to 2008, Paul is not so far out of the mainstream now.

Which just goes to show you how bad things have become in the last few years and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Ron Paul will remain, for me, on the fringe because in addition to what he says, there's who he associates with.

He recently appeared on the Alex Jones radio program.

Jones is a 911 Truther and a friend of fellow Truther Charlie Sheen.

Jesse Ventura wants to be his Veep and dedicated a book to Paul.

Plus, he looks too much like Ian McKellen to me.

Shut Down?

Both WHO HD and KCCI covered the local angle of a possible federal government shutdown.

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN: Federal employees in Iowa await answers, budget agreement

Is the headline at WHO HD and in the story they mentioned that AFGE members held a protest Wednesday outside the Social Security office in Des Moines.

13's video is here.

How Will Government Shutdown Impact Iowa is the headline for their video report.

Not all the "protesters" were AFGE members and the scientific community is united in that fact.

It must have been a slow day at the Statehouse as Dummycrat State Representative Bruce Hunter (pictured) was a sign holder.

Your tax dollars at work?

Hunter was joined by his wife, who is the State Political Director for Iowa Federation of Labor, and the organizer for the Iowa Alliance for Retired Americans at the Iowa Fed.
