Far Far Away

According to Radio Iowa, State Senator David Johnson left Des Moines for Ocheyedan on Wednesday because of the latest blizzard to hit Iowa.

Johnson was said to be Concerned about how road conditions might be when you live probably closer to International Falls than you do to Des Moines

BUZZ--WRONG!

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

According to Google Maps, the distance from Ocheyedan to International Falls, Minnesota is 441 miles (Yahoo has it at 484 miles).

Google Maps has the distance from Ocheyedan to Des Moines at 228 miles (Yahoo says 229).

Sorry Senat-err.

You Said

Most weekday mornings I tune the TV into the Mike & Mike radio show on ESPN2.

This morning the two Mike's, Greeny & Golic, were going on about how Golic had jinxed the U.S. Women's Hockey team by prematurely tweeting they were winning gold against Canada, they didn't, and how Golic shouldn't do the same to the Men's team.

Greeny went so far as to say an "anecdote" was needed to counteract Golic's jinx.

Which made me think of a bit by Ron "Tator Salad" White -- "If I knew the difference between anecdote and antidote, my friend Bob Schneider would be alive today. He got bit by a copperhead and I'm reading him humorous stories out of Reader's Digest."

Greeny also is known to "unquote" a quote.

You can't unquote a quote and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Mike "Greeny" Greenberg is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

They must be so proud.

Hard Habit To Break

Maybe it's the weather.

It could be some stuff going on in my life.

Whichever it is, when the King of SNARK can't make fun of --

Jack ASS...err, Hatch

(Hatch raps Branstad’s minority hiring record, promises to hire blacks, gays, others for key posts)

CommieTommie Harkin  (Harkin endorses Hatch for Iowa governor)

ASSME (Key labor groups endorse Hatch for Iowa governor)

John Kerry (John Kerry calls climate change deniers members of 'Flat Earth Society')

Bill Nye (Nye Goofs! Holds up pic of Arctic while talking about Antarctic)

The hypocrisy of a government that won't plow your street, but will fine you if your sidewalk isn't cleared in 48 hours (SNOW PLOWING: City Utilizing Warmer Weather)

100 Grannies (New push to ban plastic bags gains traction in Iowa City)

Or even Clowns (National clown shortage may be approaching, trade organizations fear)

It ain't looking good for the Liter and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Nowhere To Run

In earth-shattering news

Democrat Chet Culver: I won’t run for public office in 2014

My mistake, the Earth would be shattering if the Big Lug Nut was running

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Sweaty Chetty says -- I am excited to support the Iowa Democratic Party’s great ticket of candidates up and down the ballot

That leaves the Dummycrats with Jack ASS...err, Hatch for Governor and Staci Appel-sauce for brains for CONgress.

I likes them odds.

In her Ragister report, Jennifer Jacobs states Culver currently runs the Culver Group, a consulting firm.

No, The Culver Group is land surveying and construction firm in the state of California.

The Chet Culver Group is the Big Lug Nut's business.

Labelled With Love?

In this Ragister story

'No Labels' movement focused on toning down partisanship gains little traction in Iowa

Jennifer Jacobs mentions the party of those involved, which seems to defeat the purpose.

We've said it before -- Calling yourself "No Labels" is a label and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The "No Labels" group says lawmakers aren’t pressured to join, and there’s no gotcha list aimed at punishing those who don’t.

Maybe not by the group, but certainly by the media.

As Jacobs noted, in Iowa the two CONgressional members are Democrats and the the state-level work is being led by a Democrat.

Sam

I'm amused by the media circus surrounding the announcement that Michael Sam is gay.

My thoughts on the likelihood of the first "out" NFL player?

Let me  paraphrase Jerry Seinfield --

I mean, this has gotta represent the actual pie chart of America? Who cares? Winning is the world that I live in. You’re a winner, I’m interested. You’re not a winner, I’m not interested.

Some talk on ESPN had Sam coming out before he was outed, if that's true, it's sad.

As an aside, why is outing someone not considered bullying or harassment?

Back to Seinfeld, he's more interested in funny, so is the Liter.

We'll wager that Stephen A. Smith will never say, about Michael Sam, the dude can flat out ball or he's a baller and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Love On A Farm Boy's Wages?

Iowa's soon to be former Senator, CommieTommie Harkin, says that raising the minimum wage is a “moral and economic” issue and the proposal will stimulate the economy and create jobs.

Really?

A new study by the American Action Forum found that just 1.6 percent of American workers make at or below the federal minimum wage and argues raising the rate would do little to help the working poor.

And

AAF found that raising the minimum wage would fail to directly assist over 98 percent of all Americans in poverty.

Liberals who favor raising the minimum wage above the productivity of entry-level workers confuse the value of a person with the amount of money they make. But these two have little connection to each other. Every person has immense dignity. Bill Gates has no more or less intrinsic worth than a minimum-wage employee. But workers’ wages cannot exceed the value they produce, or their employers will eliminate their jobs or replace them with more skilled workers.

If life were fair, Tommie Bahama would have been working for minimum wage.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

That's My Job

The commercial that defends Bruce Braley's support of Obamacare uses similar phrasing to MiniCommie.

Bruce Braley knows we need to fix the health care law, make it work for Iowa and hold insurance companies accountable. He knows we can’t go back to letting insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions and and kick people off their coverage when they get sick

The CONgressman has stated -- Iowans can’t afford to go back to the days when insurance companies could deny coverage based on preexisting conditions and cancel coverage when people got sick and increase their premiums without justification

Hell, Obamacare already does that and the scientific community is united in that fact.

49-State Analysis: Obamacare To Increase Individual-Market Premiums By Average Of 41%

And

After weeks of defending the cancellation of health plans insurers discontinued in 2013 in order to comply with the Affordable Care Act’s coverage mandates, the White House announced in November of last year that it was urging insurers to reinstate those plans. The catch was, of course, that most insurers would be unable to turn on a dime and reinstate those plans. Furthermore, the administration allowed individual states leeway to determine whether or not they would even allow insurers to reinstate those cancelled plans.

Plus, In California, To hold down premiums under the healthcare law, major insurers have sharply cut the number of doctors and hospitals available to patients in the state’s new health insurance market.

Bundle In The Jungle?

On Friday, President Obama stopped by a reunion of former ambassadors appointed during his administration.

Ah, another fundraiser and the scientific community is united in that fact.

23: That’s How Many Obama Bundlers Have Been Nominated for Ambassadorships, having raised a total of $16.1 million.

Like Ambassador nominee to Argentina, Noah Bryson Mamet ($500,000), who has never been there.

Nominee to be ambassador to Hungary, Colleen Bradley Bell, ($800,000) is a a soap opera producer, who was unaware of the U.S. interest in the country.

And

Finally, one time Senator Max Baucus, just confirmed as Ambassador to China.

Baucus told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he’s “no real expert on China,” couldn’t say definitively whether the Obama administration considers the U.S. Embassy there to be an “island of freedom”.

Losers?

So strong is their hatred for Congressman Steve King, that the Capitol Square Crapper has no pretense of objectivity and the scientific community is united in that fact.

They published a story that states King has been tagged a “fundraising loser” by The Hill, a congressional newspaper.

The label came about because King's Dummycrat challenger, Jim Mowrer, had raised more money for the second straight quarter (this time by $12,000).

The Ragister failed to mention that the original story noted King still has the upper hand in the GOP-leaning district in a midterm year.

Also worth noting, newspapers in the district didn't cover the "loser" angle.

As a matter of fact, the Sioux City Journal mentioned -- King was never a formidable fundraiser when he won five terms in the former Iowa 5th District. He ramped up his fundraising in 2012, however, when presented with the challenge of competing against former Iowa first lady Christie Vilsack in the new 4th District covering northwest and north central counties.

Tired Of Toein' The Line?

Reporting on a survey by CQ, the Ragister shared federal lawmakers’ votes with and against the agenda of President Barack Obama in 2013.

Focusing on Iowa Dummycrats, we find CommieTommie Harkin supported the President 100% of the time.

That clearly shows a man who wasn't running for re-election.

Hell, Nancy Pelosi only supported Obama 97.5%.

On the House side, Bruce Braley supported the President 69% of the time.

That's because MiniCommie is seeking a Senate seat and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Dave No Sack...err Loebsack voted with Obama 71% of the time.

The Ragister reporter tries to spin this overwhelming majority support as "independence".

If you want to see real independence, check out the House Democrats who opposed Obama 65% to 72%.

In Canada

Canada Day is July 1.

Which means we're the Hosers for having a Canada Day today and the scientific community is united in that fact.

What's with the one dollar coin being called the Loonie, Eh?

I'd have gone with the Canuck Buck.

This post is actually to see if our Canadian friends are still reading.

I told them of this blog while in Maui, they found it and still talked to me in spite of what they've read.

Two more fans in Canada.

Especially Chilliwack.

The Roy's, as in Rogers and not Wha, are two of the nicest people I've ever known.

They'll be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, which is 4 12 1/2 Danish anniversaries, in September and quite remarkable considering how young they are.

Best Wishes!

Unchained Melody

A well compensated CEO, Mellody Hobson, recently went off on excessive salaries for corporate bosses.

"If you look today, the typical CEO makes 354 times more than the typical worker in his or her company, mostly his because there are so few women running companies."

It looks like Mellody makes an annual salary of $1 Million and is also compensated well over $1 Million for various boards she sits on.

I wonder how much Ms. Hobson pays her "typical" workers?

I'm wagering it's not all that well either and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Sad Sad Sad

The Super Bowl was more Stupor Bowl and the scientific community is united in that fact.

When I saw Peyton Manning on the phone, I told Chris -- Mom, it's not fair, Eli always wins his Super Bowls.

Most of the commercials were disappointing as well.

Budweiser is always the exception, especially when they salute our troops (A Hero's Welcome), plus bringing puppy's and Clydesdales together (Puppy Love).

The worst part is that, for me, we're in the dead zone of sports.

Football is over, the NBA sucks, and Baseball has not yet begun.

Maybe I'll try to get back into College Basketball, but probably not.

ANALog Man

The President of MSNBC, surprisingly not Barack Obama, but Phil Griffin, told an interviewer his network gets “more analytical as the day goes on.”

Griffin got the anal part right and the scientific community is united in that fact

Griffin, who described his various on-air personalities as big voices and big deeper thinkers, went on to say --  we’ve never had an ideology and We do stay true to facts

All of which makes me believe

The Prince

The man who would be King, if the job wasn't being done by his Mum, has nothing better to do than worry about the Greenhouse Effect, err Global Warming, err Climate Change.

Prince Charles has called people who deny human-made climate change a "headless chicken brigade" who are ignoring overwhelming scientific evidence.

Chuckles should check up on Mike the Headless Chicken.

Overwhelming scientific evidence would have denied Mike could make it 18 months after his head had been cut off, but yet he did.

About 7 years ago, Charles stated -- "we need to act very rapidly indeed" to avert environmental disaster."

Nearly 60 months ago, Charles predicted we have “less than 100 months” to avoid the irreversible damage caused by global warming

Charlie should worry more about his wife's head ware.

The gravitational pull on that piece alone could throw the whole solar system out of whack and the scientific community is united in that fact

I'd say we've got less than 40 months for that to happen.
