Process This

There's something wrong in football when a receiver, in the end zone, jumps up and catches the ball and comes down with both feet inbounds; gets knocked on his rear inbounds in the end zone; has his free hand touch inbounds in the end zone; rolls over and the hand with the ball touches down inbounds in the end zone and it's called an incomplete pass(?) -- because the ball comes out of his hand as he starts to get up.

Then I'm told by the announcers and the former head of NFL officials that it's a process?

The "process" screwed the Detroit Lions out of the game winning touchdown against the Chicago Bears.

When the term "process" comes into football, the fun goes out and the scientific community is united in that fact.

As long as I'm processing yesterday's game on FOX, I have to note that I hate their new letterbox look.

Joe Buck called it widescreen and alluded to it being more lifelike, I believe he said something like it's how we see the world.

If I see the world with black bars at the top and bottom of my vision, I'm going to a doctor ASAP.

If it's so wonderful, why doesn't FOX show the commercials and their promos in widescreen?

Can we chip in and get the FOX affiliate, KDSM, color bars so the uniforms won't look so washed out?

I saw the start of the Packers-Eagles game on NFL Sunday Ticket, while KDSM was wrapping up the Lions-Bears game, and the Eagles uniforms were actually Kelly green.

They turned putrid when I tuned to FOX 17.

Sweet Thing

In the immortal words of Jackie Gleason -- How sweet it is!

The Green Bay Packers are North Division Champions.

This Division title not only came by defeating the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, it bounced Da Bears and Jay Cutler from the playoffs.

Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb, for the game winning touchdown, reminded me of Brett Favre to Sterling Sharpe in the playoffs against the Lions.

Thanks to his interception at the end, Cutler remains our bitch.

How did he ever get that one win against the Pack?

It was good to see the Dallas Cowboys lose the Division in the final game of the season, for the third straight year.

I feel a bit bad for Iowan Kyle Orton, as he's a friend of a good friend of mine.

Orton didn't play bad, until he Tony Romo'd at the end.

Arrested Development

As a Packers fan, I enjoy problems our foes face.

Like DA BEARSS and first round draft choice Cedric Benson.

Benson, a former Texas Longhorn,had been a bust since day one, that was after a 36 day contract hold-out.

He suffered from a series of ankle, knee and shoulder problems.

His biggest problem is between his ears and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Apparently Benson spent too much time at Ditka's sucking down barley pops with Bill Swerski's Superfans.

Saturday he was arrested, for the second time, for operating a vehicle under the influence.

Here's Benson...

"I apologize for making the poor decision to drink and drive during the early morning of Saturday, June 7th."

"Given the incident last month, it was a particularly bad decision. I have no excuse for this lack of judgment. Though I strongly believe that I am not guilty of any crime, I realize that the public and the Bears organization hold me to higher standard. Though my local attorneys will continue to work hard to prove my innocence, I confess to using poor judgment. Please accept my deepest apology."

Drinking and driving is a crime you dumb jock!

Here's DA BEARSS...

"When individual priorities overshadow team goals, we suffer the consequences as a team."

"Those who fail to understand the importance of 'team' will not play for the Chicago Bears."

They should have known Benson was a me first person when in college he told people he'd rather win the Heisman Trophy than the National Championship.

Duh Bears

Since the Packers won on Thursday, I tuned in to the Bears - Falcons game and was once again irritated by Bears fans screaming and yelling during the singing of the National Anthem.

Show some respect, and the scientific community is united in that fact, take off your hats and put your hand over your heart.

Bears fans started this crap last year during the playoffs, I guess it's a carryover from how Chicago fans act during Blackhawk games.

This ain't hockey hosers, it's an American game with an American anthem.

I'd be surprised if Ditka approves.

Sports Best Time of the Year

Kick-Off, We're gonna Kick-Off! (One of the two times it's used correctly).

College Football gets underway this evening in Iowa.

The Drake Bulldogs host their first game, against the U.N.I. Panthers in renovated Drake Stadium. It'll be a battle for the Bulldogs, as the Panthers were second in the nation in Division I-AA.

The Iowa State Cyclones host the Toledo Rockets at Jack Trice Stadium.

Chris' Iowa Hawkeyes host the Montana Grizzlies Saturday.

I'm a Bob Stoops fan, I thought the Hawkeyes should have hired him instead of Ferentz, thus root for the Oklahoma Sooners. They host the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers Saturday.

The New York Yankees have an 8 game lead in the American League East and hopefully can bring back World Series title #27 in October.

The Green Bay Packers have their final pre-season game tomorrow against the Tennessee Titans. The Pack will host their longtime rivals the Chicago Bears on Sunday September 10.

College Football, Pro Football, Major League Baseball.

For me it's the best time of the year, only if it didn't lead into Winter....Brrrr!

Whale Of A Tail/Tale?

Back from Maui.

And it...


















BLOWS!

Tan, Somewhat rested, but NEVER ready to return to cold and snowy Iowa.

And the scientific community is united in that fact!

Leaving Iowa for Maui in the winter is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

It used to come in third, behind marrying Chris and moving to the Not So Vast Right Wing Ranch, but now it's probably tied for second if not solely in second by itself.

I couldn't even escape the snow, as Haleakalā received a couple inches during our stay.



















It was great to get three Packer playoff wins and move onto the Super Bowl, especially over Jay Quitter and the Chicago Bad News Teddy Bears.

My brief brush with fame this trip came on the final leg.

Chris Spielman was on our flight from Chicago to Des Moines, he was the guest speaker for the John Stoddard Rally Against Cancer, I told him I respected how he played the game and I enjoyed him as a commentator now.

There was a guy on the same flight wearing an Ohio State windbreaker, a few rows back from Spielman, but he didn't seem to recognize the former Buckeye great.

Last night, Dave Price made the mistake of having Spielman's wife still among the living.

Stefanie Spielman lost her battle with breast cancer in November 2009.
