Don't Just Dream

DO SOMETHING!

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Dummycrat State Representative Wayne Ford went off the deep end when he was caught complaining about government response to this year's flooding of the Union Park/Birdland neighborhood.

Per the Ragister on 6/12...

officials have not been responsive enough since the 1993 floods — and help is coming too slowly now. He said there aren’t enough sandbags to protect homes and businesses in the area and he worries about flooding at North High School, directly across Second Avenue from the area being evacuated.

"...If we can protect Sec Taylor stadium, we should also be able to protect North High School.”

First off Wayne, it's Principal Park and has been since 2004.

Second, it was sandbagged by Iowa Cubs employees.

RODNEY WHITE/REGISTER photosIowa Cubs assistant of stadium operations Janelle Videgar, right, helps other front office and grounds crew employees sandbag on Monday afternoon. Principal Park is skirted by the Des Moines River on the east and the Raccoon River on the south.

Thirdly, get off your fat ass and help sandbag.

Were you a part of the huge effort in Union Park to fill sandbags to be stacked by the National Guard?

Volunteers scurry to fill sandbags to strengthen the Birdland levee Thursday night at Union Park in Des Moines.

How about utilizing your organization Urban Dreams?

In today's Ragister they corrected Ford's comments for him...

Ford remarked on efforts taken earlier to build a wall around Principal Park south of downtown and said "we should also be able to protect North High School."

The Big Hurt

The Iowa Cubs have been advertising the appearance of onetime Major League Baseball player Frank "The Big Hurt" Thomas at Principal Park.

Frank Thomas to Principal Park Today

Thomas will sign autographs, but only if you've purchased a separate $30 autograph ticket.

The autograph ticket allows for one autograph, no photos or inscriptions please, and does not provide admission into the game.

Ouch!

That's a BIG HURT to the wallet and the scientific community is united in that fact.

In addition, certificates of authenticity will be on sale for $3.00 each.

Now you're just being insulting.

99 percent of the time, its about the money.

I'm not going to begrudge Thomas or the Iowa Cubs a money making opportunity, but save it for a card show or during your winter Fan Fest, not before a baseball game.

Walking Through The Park?

Unlike Tuffy Rhodes, Chris and I stayed until the game ended at Principal Park last night.

The Iowa Cubs won 1-0, on what the common vernacular calls a "walk off", this time it was a two out single.

I got home just in time to watch the Houston Astros defeat the Oakland A's, 5-4, in what is being called a "walk off" error.

The sport-o's have sunk to a new low with this "walk off" stuff and it needs to stop.

Having watched both games, there was no walking involved and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Sadly, this is not the first "walk off" error this season, and the Astros have been on both ends of the outcome.

Sporting Life Blues

In Ragister online Norts Spews the Iowa Cubs got an extra inning win at Principal Park.

According to the sports geniuses, the win came in the top of the 11th inning on a roller to New Orleans pitcher Gary Glover that amounted to a walk-off win.

Sports News Flash -- the Home Team does not bat in the top of any inning and the scientific community is united in that fact.

On a roller back to the pitcher, I doubt there was any walking involved, but as annoying as the term walk off has become, this is at least as close to the original intent of the phrase.

Also online, the Ragister chose this headline

Douglas wrestles cover away from Michael Phelps, other stars

I can understand the Ragister wanting to play up the somewhat local angle, but this makes it seem like the Iowa-based gymnast has the cover of Sports Illustrated (below) to herself.

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Fame

Michael Gartner was honored Friday, by the Iowa Dummycrat Party, with their Outstanding Supporter Hall of Fame Award.

The award honors an individual who has supported the Iowa Democratic Party and all aspects of Democratic politics throughout the years. This individual has selflessly been a resource to Iowa Democrats through means of organizational efforts, monetary support, volunteer work, and overall steadfast dedication.

Gartner took his time at the podium to read aloud some of the planks of the Republican platform.

“I would be embarrassed to be a Republican in Iowa these days,” he concluded to loud applause.

Gartner should be embarrassed about the piddly rent ($1 or $2 a year, if I recall) he pays to the City of Des Moines for the use of Principal Park.

Forbes magazine listed the Iowa Cubs, as the 15th Most Valuable Team in Minor League Baseball at $19 Million.

The Iowa Cubs generate $9 Million in Revenue, with an Operating Income (Earnings before Taxes, Interest and Depreciation) of $1.7 Million.

Somebody's not paying his fair share, which allows him to make Dummycrat coffers richer.

Gartner, pictured, better pray the taxpayers don't get wise and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The picture of Gartner we borrowed from onetime Register Sportswriter Ron Maly, who has Gartner listed on his blog as Official Asshole.

Having worked with him, he'd know.

Its not OFFICIAL

The 2007 MLB World Series opens in Boston tonight and because the 26 time World Champion New York Yankees aren't playing it cannot be considered an OFFICIAL World Series, so designated by Frank Miller.

It would be nice to see Colorado win it, it's their first trip and they put together a tremendous run.

I see I part ways with America's Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, on this...

"I'm rooting for the Red Sox."

"I'm an American League fan, and I go with the American League team, maybe with the exception of the Mets."

"Maybe that would be the one time I wouldn't because I'm loyal to New York."

I'll be attending a World Series party at Principal Park, but my attitude will be like the Red Sox Manny Ramirez...

"...Who cares? There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world."

But it's CLOSE and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Hell And High Water?

Before the latest snow event Friday, I drove past Principal Park, home to the Iowa Cubs, and a sign reassuringly stated that the snow will be gone by Opening Day on April 8.

I chuckled to myself highly doubting it and then thinking if that were so, it would be replaced by flood waters as the risks are rising with each snowflake.

Weather Wienie Ed Wilson has the snow rankings now at #5 from our previous high of #9 with 61.7".

In the immortal words of Scott Lame (George Carlin) on Wonderful WINO radio, "that's four spaces, four spaces, four spaces, four spaces" and the scientific community is united in that fact.

There's more on the way Sunday, 6", even though the Weather Wienies had predicted it would miss Des Moines, they said Friday was a dusting and that amounted to about 4".

I know I'm not the only one tired of these TV twerps who are rooting for us to get the all time record of 72".

I'm taking up a collection to get a dump truck filled with snow to dump it on each of these dip shits cars.

I think if they want 72 inches, they should get their wish!
