The title comes from the Appendix to Jim Bouton's BALL FOUR. Bouton says he took it from a Peanuts strip with Lucy explaining to Charlie Brown their baseball teams performance. But I digress. The Principal Bank had a P.S.A. running on WHO TV/13 in support of Children & Families of Iowa. In this PSA The Principal Bank stated it was stunned by figures regarding domestic violence. It implies that since 1995 nearly 200 people have been killed, in Iowa, by domestic violence. It also states that figure is more than traffic fatalities, rapes and muggings. Something about those figures didn't seem right to me. MORE THAN TRAFFIC FATALITIES? So, I e-mailed C&FI to see where they obtained those figures. Tara at C&FI replied, "The statistics in the domestic violence commercial currently airing on who tv/13 were provided by, The Iowa Attorney General's Office-Crime Victim Assistance Division and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence." So I contacted the AG's office and asked the same question. This is the response I received.

The domestic violence death numbers in the Principal public service announcement come from my office.  I compile them from public information.  I have kept the list since 1990.  The numbers in the advertisement are a couple of years old.  Please let me know if you need further information.

I'm trying to understand why the Principal ad states that more people are killed by domestic violence than by traffic accidents, rapes & muggings. According to IDOT, 450 people were killed in car crashes in 2005. There were 388 traffic fatalities in 2004 and the state has averaged 445 deaths annually over the last 10 years. Which
is correct?

Needless to say I haven't seen that particular PSA since. The point is...While any figures, concerning these serious topics, are TOO many. You just can't be pulling this stuff out of thin air!

Culver seems to have got it down pat.

Branstad should have been more clear on the debate format, wanting response time, especially after the moderators had just gone over it with the viewers.

Culver stumbled over Sioux City seeming to call it Sewer Water City.

Back to the bake sale analogy as Culver defends I-JOBS.

I love how Branstad shot down Culver's AAA bond rating by noting how Enron and Lehman Brothers both received the same rating from Moody's.

Culver used a majority of his time regarding the judicial selection process to go back to a previous question about bonding.

Culver seemed to be bragging about the 30,000 Iowans collecting extended unemployment benefits, but because Culver did not seek a change in the state's unemployment law roughly 18,000 Iowans have missed out on an 13 weeks of benefits paid for by the federal government.

Also, for the second straight year Iowa employers will be taxed more to support the Iowa Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund.

Back to the debate --

Culver claimed 16,000 jobs (?) have been created since December.

He must be counting the turnover in his official and campaign offices and the scientific community is united in that fact.

When questioned by Branstad, Culver could not name one (let alone the three asked for) of his biggest mistakes, yet said he takes full responsibility for his mistakes.

That lends credence to the belief that the mistakes he's admitting to making are just an insincere campaign ploy.

When Culver was given a chance to question Branstad he just talked and talked before finally asking him to admit I-JOBS was being funded with gaming revenue.

Those revenues continue to fall and I-JOBS could end up being paid back from the state's general fund.

Branstad scored with the 300,000 jobs he created as Governor versus the 50,000 jobs Culver has lost.

Education came up and Culver brought up his two "amazing" children.

Those kids have made a commercial for him, Clare seems to take after her dad and John after his mom, Mari.

Culver also claims preschool could be the defining issue in the campaign, which makes me wonder what happened to embryonic stem cell research?

Just last week it was to be a key to Culver winning re-election.

Branstad pointed out that preschool should not be an entitlement, funded by taxpayers for everyone, but should be paid for on the basis of need.

Congratulations to Culver on not breaking out Sweaty Chetty until roughly half way through the debate.

When questioned about what he would have done different about the floods of 2008, Culver started off his response about the tornado that hit the Little Sioux Scout Ranch and then mentioned being to Cedar Rapids 100 times.

When asked again what he would have done different, his response was nothing.

I loved how Branstad tied Jack DeCoster to the Dymmycrats with his $10,000 campaign contribution to Attorney General Tom Miller and to Culver via a $400,000 donation to the Democratic Governors ASSociation, which has funded Culver's campaign.

Thankfully nobody called Decoster a bad egg or a rotten egg.

I'm not sure what to make of Culver's claim that the "facts are getting in the way of the truth".

On the topic of economic development, Culver's plan to end brain drain in Iowa is with BRAIN SUCK.

As my lovely and talented wife pointed out to me, brain gain would have been more appropriate.

In his closing statement, Culver claimed Terry Branstad is against civil rights?

I've had personal encounters with both debate moderators, Larry Wentz and Amanda Krenz.

Larry is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and when you say that about someone in broadcasting it is quite a statement.

Larry and I worked for the same company when he was in news at WHO TV and I was at KLYF Radio.

Larry organized the company basketball team and just a couple years ago organized a successful (and fun) reunion of onetime WHO TV/Radio and KLYF employees, where I reminded him that my grandmother (98 this month) was the house mother at his Iowa State fraternity and Larry shared nice memories of that experience.

It appears WOI TV/5 has replaced anchor Lisa Carponelli (left) with Rachel Pierce.

Pierce moves to 5 from Omaha's WOWT.

Iowas Newz Liter is not sure that's a step up and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Carponelli is apparently moving to WHO TV/13 as an anchor, wonder who's out there?

Clinton's new glow job

With the Democrats' full-throated moralizing of late, I'm almost tempted to vote for them -- although perhaps "full-throated" is the wrong phrase to use with regard to Democrats and sex scandals. The sudden emergence of the Swift Butt Veterans for Truth demonstrates that the Democrats would prefer to talk about anything other than national security.

Unfortunately for them, the psychotic Kim Jong Il seems to be setting off nukes, raising the embarrassing issue of the Clinton administration's 1994 "peace" deal with North Korea.

At least with former Rep. Mark Foley, you could say the Democrats' hypocritical grandstanding was just politics. But in the case of North Korea, Democrats are resorting to bald-faced lies.

Current New Mexico governor and former Clinton administration official Bill Richardson has been on tour, bragging about the groundbreaking Clinton administration negotiations with North Korea -- keeping his fingers crossed that no one has access to news from 1994.

In 1994, the Clinton administration got a call from Jimmy Carter -- probably collect -- who was with the then-leader of North Korea, saying: "Hey, Kim Il Sung is a total stud, and I've worked out a terrific deal. I'll give you the details later."

Clinton promptly signed the deal, so he could forget about North Korea and get back to cheating on Hillary. Mission accomplished.

Under the terms of the "agreed framework," we gave North Korea all sorts of bribes -- more than $5 billion worth of oil, two nuclear reactors and lots of high technology. In return, they took the bribes and kept building nukes. This wasn't difficult, inasmuch as the 1994 deal permitted the North Koreans to evade weapons inspectors for the next five years.

Yes, you read that right: North Korea promised not to develop nukes, and we showed how much we trusted them by agreeing to no weapons inspections for five years.

The famed "allies," whom liberals claim they are so interested in pleasing, went ballistic at this cave-in to North Korea. Japan and South Korea -- actual allies, unlike France and Germany -- were furious. Even Hans Blix thought we were being patsies.

If you need any more evidence that it was a rotten deal, The New York Times hailed it as "a resounding triumph."

At the time, people like William Safire were screaming from the rooftops that allowing North Korea to escape weapons inspections for five years would "preclude a pre-emptive strike by us if North Korea, in the next U.S. president's administration, breaks its agreement to freeze additional bomb-making."

And then on Oct. 17, 2002 -- under a new administration, you'll note -- The New York Times reported on the front page, so you couldn't have missed it: "Confronted by new American intelligence, North Korea has admitted that it has been conducting a major clandestine nuclear weapons development program for the past several years."

So when it comes to North Korea, I believe the Democrats might want to maintain a discreet silence, lest anyone ask, "Hey, did you guys do anything with North Korea?"

But by Richardson's lights, the only reason Kim Jong Il is testing nukes is because Bush called him evil. He said, "When you call him axis of evil or a tyrant, you know, he just goes crazy." This is the sort of idiocy you expect to hear from an illiterate like Keith Olbermann, not someone who might know people who read newspapers.

Richardson also blames the war in Iraq, bleating that the poor North Koreans feel "that there's too much attention on the Middle East, on Iraq. So it's a cry for attention." If Kim just wanted our attention, he could have started dating Lindsay Lohan. But Richardson says Kim "psychologically feels he's been dissed, that he's not treated with respect."

Damn that Bush! If only he had ignored the crazy Muslims and dedicated himself into sending flowers (and more nuclear reactors!) to North Korea, we could be actively helping Kim develop his nukes like the Clinton administration did.

As Richardson said, Kim "wants us to negotiate with him directly, as we did in the Clinton administration."

To go on TV and propose negotiating with North Korea like Clinton did without ever mentioning that North Korea cheated on that agreement before the ink was dry would be like denouncing American aggression against Japan in 1942 and neglecting to mention Pearl Harbor. Anyone who is either that stupid or that disingenuous should not be allowed on TV.

When pressed by CNN's Anderson Cooper about the failed deal, Richardson lied, claiming the 1994 deal prevented the North Koreans from building nukes "for eight years" -- i.e., right up until the day The New York Times reported the North Koreans had been developing nukes "for the past several years."

Kim is crazier than any leader even South America has been able to produce. In fact, he's so crazy, we might be able to get the Democrats to take action. Someone tell Nancy Pelosi that the "Dear Leader" is an actual pederast. Then we'll at least be able to read his instant messages.

If you want impressive numbers more than 291,000 Iowans, almost 10 percent of the state’s population, turned out to take a walk to improve their health on Friday.

That's a turnout and they'll also achieve a positive result.

Not like the idiots who want to Occupy Wall Street, and elsewhere, with their loony desire and demands.

Is the title of Jack Cafferty's book, but that's an apt description that works on many levels about Cafferty himself.

There also was a time when coming out of a commercial break, Cafferty had his feet propped up on the anchor desk wondering what a Burger King franchise costs.

WHO/TV 13 had a story last night, and the Ragister ran it today, about a Viet Nam veteran who finally received his Purple Heart on Memorial Day.

I was struck by how grateful he was, being nearly moved to tears.

I really appreciated what WHO reported he wanted to share...

Gore also stated, The hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now they’re adding a 6.

According to Chris Vaccaro, director of the National Weather Service’s office of public affairs --

No, we’re not pursuing any such change. But with his penchant for overstatement, Gore will continue to be a divisive and less than credible voice in climate change discourse.

Because Gore is okay with fudging the facts --

"Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an overrepresentation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is..."  



Some of those 90+ percent of scientists must be confused by facts as to whether the planet is warming or cooling.

On one hand we're told, the Earth steadily continued to heat up, but in the same article we're advised that cloud-dwelling pollutants block the sun's heat, keeping the surface temperature of the Earth from rising.

What difference does it make anyway, NBC tells us that even if we stop producing carbon emissions now, climate change will persist for hundreds of years.

If that's the case, it's past time to start worrying about stopping climate change and change the focus to Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.

I think the reaction to the idea of a celebration of the Iowa Caucuses was just a little harsh.

Because you read "like" or "such as" Britney Spears doesn't mean that bimbo is who they're after to appear.

Unfortunately, that's how too many people talk today.

David Yepsen went a little off the deep end when he said it would, "denigrate and cheapen what should be the serious business of selecting candidates for the American presidency."

I like David, even when we disagree, but I've attended caucuses since 1988 and they're not as pristine as people believe.

A majority of those in attendance are there to support a candidate for President and leave when that portion of the evening is completed.

Most people don't know they're held every two years with the purpose of conducting party business, such as platform issues and county convention delegates, at a local level.

They've been carried live on C-Span for crying out loud, for the most part it's boring!

The Ragister's Kyle Munson was against it.

Which means if that no talent is against it, on principle I have to be for it. Just like if he's for something I'm against it....similar to my stand on Ragister issues.

These are the same people who complain constantly about how boring Iowa is and how we need to get more young people involved in the political process.

I think MTV's "Rock the Vote" and P-Dummy with his "Vote or Die" T-shirt/campaign are what really cheapens and denigrates the entire political process.

If they can make this concert along the lines of the Kennedy Center Honors, then it would be classy and entertaining.

I do think it would be silly to follow too many of Terry Rich's ideas, he told WHO-TV/Channel 13
that they would have the Dummycrat candidates in the front row on one side and Republicans in the front on the other side as a way of thanking them for running....That's Hokey!

The best part is it wouldn't cost Iowans anything.

You can't say that about a lot of what gets proposed in this state.

On WHO TV/13's Newscast the two chicks on set have been clucking for Rob Lowe video.

Yesterday they got their wish when the actor killed the Iowa State Bird while golfing in the Principal Charity Classic.

It's easier to hit a hole in one than an Eastern Goldfinch in flight.

Lowe, and his fellow golfers, showed as much remorse as Lowe did after filming his home made sex video with a minor at the 1988 Dummycrat Convention...

As the rest of the players in his group — including Iowa athletic director Gary Barta — broke out in laughter and applause, the 43-year-old actor raised his arms in mock celebration.

"This is my birdie," Lowe said...

The TV talking heads were all chuckling too.

FATAL ACCIDENT: Des Moines Officials found a man under a car in an accident Sunday afternoon.

Weather Boy Blunder, Brett McIntyre, looked just as bad with a weather forecast for Monday that predicted a high of 55. Per the National Weather Service the high in Des Moines on Monday November 14 2011 was 62.

That's considered an accurate forecast for TV Weather Wienies.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.
