Rep. John Murtha is thinking big thoughts. Since coming out for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq last year, he has accused Marines of murder "in cold blood" before a preliminary investigation is even complete; accused the military of a cover up over the same incident; declared his candidacy for the House majority leadership post; and, most recently, refined his cut-and-run strategy in Iraq to mean "redeployment" to Okinawa, Japan.
That's quite a splash for such a veteran congressman, who a year ago had zero name recognition outside Washington. That he's made a name for himself now by slandering our troops and their mission deserves a brief recital of some other activities associated with Mr. Murtha.
Last June, the Los Angeles Times reported how the ranking member on the defense appropriations subcommittee has a brother, Robert Murtha, whose lobbying firm represents 10 companies that received more than $20 million from last year's defense spending bill. "Clients of the lobbying firm KSA Consulting -- whose top officials also include former congressional aide Carmen V. Scialabba, who worked for Rep. Murtha as a congressional aide for 27 years -- received a total of $20.8 million from the bill," the L.A. Times reported.
In early 2004, according to Roll Call, Mr. Murtha "reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco." Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land. The same article also reported how Mr. Murtha has been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Rep. Paul Kanjorski. Meanwhile, the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan campaign-finance watchdog group, lists Mr. Murtha as the top recipient of defense industry dollars in the current 2006 election cycle.
As Rep. Joe Wilson, South Carolina Republican, has said, "If there is a potential pattern where Congressman Murtha has helped other Democrats secure appropriations that also benefited relatives of those members, I believe this would be something that merits further review by the ethics committee."
It's odd that the media, which has been fairly unbiased in going after corrupt politicians recently, has gone silent on Mr. Murtha's questionable actions. Or maybe it isn't. Since December, Mr. Murtha has become the darling of the antiwar crowd, and, as we've seen with other such darlings, scrutinizing their behavior is considered disrespectful. But as we're on the subject, few might recall that after the massive 1980 Abscam scandal, Mr. Murtha was named by the FBI as an "unindicted co-conspirator."
Maybe the next time the new Jack Murtha thinks up another big idea someone can ask him about the old Jack Murtha.

I had forgotten that federal prosecutors designated him an unindicted co-conspirator in the Abscam investigation 26 years ago. I was reminded of it after Murtha became a candidate for majority leader, not by a Republican hit man but a Democratic former colleague in the House. In a long political career, Murtha has made bitter enemies inside his party who are alarmed by his new stature. . . .

In 1980, the FBI named him as one of eight members of Congress videotaped being offered bribes by a phony Arab sheik.

The other seven targets took cash and were convicted in federal court. The videotape showed Murtha declining to take cash but expressing interest in further negotiations, while bragging about his political influence. Murtha testified against the popular Rep. Frank Thompson, which created lifelong enemies in the Democratic cloakroom. The House Ethics Committee exonerated Murtha of misconduct charges by a largely party-line vote, after which the committee's special counsel resigned in protest.

That salvaged Murtha's political career but limited his public exposure. The current Almanac of American Politics says: ''He speaks for attribution to few national or local reporters, hardly ever appears on television and rarely speaks in the House chamber.'' That reticence has disappeared the last seven months.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi hopes to became Speaker of the House by pushing the "culture of corruption" theme in this fall's election. Unfortunately, instances of corruption among House Democrats keep conspiring against her. The latest instance hits particularly close to home. This Washington Times editorial notes that her point man on defeatism in Iraq, Rep. John Murtha, appears to be part of the culture Pelosi purports to condemn.

The Times collects a number of tidbits. The Los Angeles Times reported last year that Murtha's brother, Robert, runs a lobbying firm that represents 10 companies that received more than $20 million from last year's defense spending bill. "Asked by a reporter about how 'President Bush today blamed the surge of violence in Iraq on al Qaeda,' incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded with a disjointed answer about how 'the 9/11 commission dismissed that notion a long time ago, and I feel sad that the president is resorting to it again,' " the Media Research Center's Brent Baker reports at www.mrc.org.

"Though al-Qaeda is clearly in Iraq and responsible for deadly bombings, and the 9/11 commission conclusion was about links before September 11, on Tuesday's 'NBC Nightly News' reporter David Gregory treated Pelosi's off-base retort as credible and relevant.

Without suggesting any miscue by her, Gregory segued to Pelosi's sound bite with a bewildering set up of his own about how incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi disagreed, warning that such rhetoric about al Qaeda will make it harder for Democrats to work with the White House.

"On [Fox News Channel's] 'Special Report with Brit Hume,' after panelist Mara Liasson characterized Pelosi as 'confused' and Morton Kondrake suggested she was just 'mixed up,' Fred Barnes maintained that 'she clearly screwed up here.' ...

"Barnes argued the media wouldn't let a Republican get away with such a flub, telling Kondrake: 'If some Republican had done this, if Bush had done this at a press conference, if Newt Gingrich had said it, if John Boehner had said it, if Roy Blunt had said it, you'd have been all over it. It would be inexcusable.'

"Neither ABC's 'World News Tonight' or 'The CBS Evening News' played the Pelosi sound bite."

It was a solemn pledge, repeated by Democratic leaders and candidates over and over: If elected to the majority in Congress, Democrats would implement all of the recommendations of the bipartisan commission that examined the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

But with control of Congress now secured, Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly: a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation's intelligence agencies. Instead, Democratic leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations, according to congressional aides and lawmakers.

....aides on the House and Senate appropriations, armed services and intelligence committees confirmed this week that a reorganization of Congress would not be part of the package of homeland-security changes up for passage in the "first 100 hours" of the Democratic Congress.

The 9/11 Commission was unequivocal about the need.

"Of all our recommendations, strengthening congressional oversight may be among the most difficult and important," the panel wrote. "So long as oversight is governed by current congressional rules and resolutions, we believe the American people will not get the security they want and need."

Yesterday we went from Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitting she was clueless about a Senate amendment to prohibit government funds for ACORN.

"I don't even know what they passed. "What did they do? They defunded it?"

To a vote on the House floor, 345 to 75, to ban all federal funding to ACORN.

That's quite the turnaround.

It should come as no surprise, and the scientific community is united in that fact, that all 75 votes to support ACORN were Dummycrats.

Per the House Clerk's tabulation, Nancy Pelosi did not vote!

She's not listed with the Ayes, Noes, Present or Not Voting.

Where was she, she was in Washington.

In 2009, when Staci Appel-sauce for brains was my State Senator, I contacted her about the Dummycrats desire to end Federal Deductibility (Very Taxing).

One of the downsides of that contact was that Staci took that to mean she could add me to her e-mail list and send me her propaganda...err newsletter.

Four years later, Staci has purloined that list from the State of Iowa and is using it to send me fundraising e-mails about her CONgressional campaign against Tom Latham.

I've received 26 such unsolicited fundraising e-mails since July, some from Staci, some from Loretta Sackey, Ben Miller, Nathan Arentsen, Louis Frankel, Paul Begala, Steve Israel and Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi wishes "she could have more leaders like Staci in Congress", by that she must mean mindless drones and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The House Minority Leader showed her leadership by being absent for Saturday's House vote on the Continuing Resolution.

Pelosi also urged me to "chip in $3" before today's "critical fundraising deadline".

Pelosi must not have a lot of faith, Staci's e-mails ask for $5.

One of the e-mails from Staci stated, "Not sure if you knew this -- but, in 167 years, Iowa has failed to send a woman to Congress to represent them".

Iowa has been a state for nearly 167 years, but the first woman in Congress was a Republican elected 97 years ago.

For most Women, they've only had the right to vote for 93 years.

Current fundraising reports show Appel with $0.

I've given and will continue to give $0, because Staci Appel remains a zero to me.

Byron York writes at National Review Online (www. nationalreview.com).
"The answer is something else. Pelosi plans to enact the Democrats' 'Six for '06' agenda in 100 legislative hours -- not real hours. And a legislative hour is not just any hour that the House is open for business. 'It's when the House convenes, after the one-minutes and before the special orders,' says Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly, referring to the times of day when members of Congress will sometimes drone on about any issue that comes to mind. At that pace, Daly says, the first 100 hours 'could take a couple of weeks.'

That's just like a politician, full of double speak and never really meaning what they say.

At least with F.D.R. 100 days was 100 days and that's been the standard President's have been measured against since.

After what seems like months, Nancy Pelosi is done letting Alcee Hastings twist in the wind.

Hastings had campaigned for the Chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee, just recently sending out a letter to Representatives seeking their support.

The Congressional Black Caucus had also sent a letter, to Pelosi, in support of Hastings.

Pelosi announced her decision yesterday and had this to say about Hastings....

"Alcee Hastings has always placed national security as his highest priority. "He has served our country well, and I have full confidence that he will continue to do so."

I guess that little impeachment thing in 1988 doesn't count!

Pelosi was one of 413 who voted to remove Hastings as a Federal Judge, because evidence showed he had conspired to solicit bribes/money from defendants in return for favorable treatment in Hastings’s court.

Hastings shot back at critics with this statement....

"Sorry, haters, God is not finished with me yet."

As the book title says, Ironically found at gohastings.com (I doubt that there's a connection), I love God's sense of humor!

I'm sure he enjoys watching people make an ass of themselves and be an example of how NOT to live a purpose driven life.

It was just last month Speaker Nancy Pelosi admonished those against the health care plan Dummycrats want to Rahm down our throats as being "un-American".

Today, the woman who called President Bush a "total failure", believes "we all have to take action and responsibility for our words".

She then played misty for me when she flashed back..."I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because i saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco...".

Her staff advised she was referring to the murder of Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk by Supervisor Dan White.

Pelosi concluded, "I wish we would all curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements and understand that some of the ears that it is falling on are not a balanced as the person making the statements may assume."

Pelosi is 100% correct--White was after all a Democrat and it shows how "not balanced" they can be and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Pelosi is now focused on a cut in congressional pay because of the looming sequester.

"I don't think we should do it; I think we should respect the work we do. I think it's necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded."

It's more accurate to say their work is do do and is not respected by 89% of the people polled.

The CIA briefed top Democrats and Republicans on the congressional intelligence committees more than 30 times about enhanced interrogation techniques, according to intelligence sources who said the lawmakers tacitly approved the techniques that some Democrats in Congress now say should land Bush administration officials in jail.

Among those briefed, Nancy Pelosi.

Between fiscal years (FY) 2001 — the last time the federal government ran a surplus — and 2012, federal revenues increased $477 billion and outlays (spending) increased $1.9 trillion, according to figures from the Office of Management and Budget’s FY 2012 estimate.

That's a spending problem and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I think we're going to have to open up Pelosi's head to find out what, besides dead air, is in it.

Tax expenditures, they are called. Subsidies for big oil, subsidies to send jobs overseas, breaks to send jobs overseas, breaks for corporate jets. They are called tax expenditures. Spending money on tax breaks. And that’s the spending that we must curtail as well.

These are the top 20 biggest "Tax Expenditures" which cost the government over $900 billion in the 2012 fiscal year.

Those are "subsidies" for the average American and not big business.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), The tax expenditures that have the largest impact on revenues involve the exclusion from workers’ taxable income of employers’ health insurance contributions; the exclusion of contributions to and earnings of pension funds; and the deduction for interest paid on mortgages for owner-occupied residences.

In April of 2006, Nancy Pelosi promised that Dummycrats had a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.

The national price average for a gallon of gas was $2.91.

The 2006 Dummycrat solution...

cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.

Gas prices today?

Nearing $4 a gallon!
