Always One Of A Kind, Joe Biden was in a couple of Iowa cities yesterday.

Biden got out of the gaffe gate early when calling Scott Community College President Dr. Theresa Paper quote "Dr. Pepper".

I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper,
She's a Pepper, we're a Pepper,
Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper, too?
Be a Pepper. Drink Dr Pepper.

BURP!

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

The Vice President also regurgitated some errors of fact while attacking Mitt Romney.

The press gave early snippets of what Biden was to say, in Davenport, before his arrival.

The Wall Street Journal wrote, and I’m quoting, ‘Romney appeared to scoff, first in Detroit, then in Florida, at the notion of manufacturing as a job engine for the future.’

So look folks, we have a choice in this election:

Between our philosophy that believes manufacturing is central to our economy, and their philosophy that scoffs at it.

Biden didn't give the whole picture from the Wall Street Journal, as Romney is then quoted...

"Last month, 5,000 people lost their jobs in manufacturing," Romney said at the Detroit appearance. "The president seems to be out of touch with what's happening in his own economy."

Hence the scoffing.

Back to Biden -- “Governor Romney has called the president ‘out of touch.’ That’s a quote. Out of touch for encouraging young people to try to get manufacturing jobs. Romney? Pretty remarkable. As an old friend of mine says, ‘That’s chutzpah.’”

While I think the 'out of touch' quote stands on its own when speaking of the President, the actual quote (above) was... "The president seems to be out of touch with what's happening in his own economy."

As governor of Massachusetts, Romney repeatedly slashed funding for workforce training, and vetoed a bill to block state services to be outsourced overseas

In one case, a taxpayer-funded 800 number for the Massachusetts government was answered by workers on the other side of the world

The Washington Post's The Fact Checker had this to say about that claim when it was aired last year in a pro-Obama group ad --

“American Jobs Relocated.” This eye-popping claim is based on some pretty flimsy evidence. First, the group points to Romney’s 2004 veto of a bill that would have prohibited state contracts with companies that use overseas employees for the work. Romney, then governor of Massachusetts, argued at the time that the bill did not protect the state’s jobs but might actually cost money. Proponents of the bill had touted a union study claiming that $7 million was spent on contract work overseas

One has to wonder where Biden was one year later, while in the United States Senate, for the United States Workers Protection Act of 2005?

This act was sponsored by Dummycrat Senator Chris Dodd and would have, among other things, prohibited outsourced federal government work from being performed by a contractor or any subcontractor outside the United States and prohibit federal funds from being disbursed to a state until the Governor of the state has transmitted written certification that none of the funds will be spent for the performance of contracts outside the United States

The United States Workers Protection Act of 2005 received no Cosponsors and died.

Who else was in the United States Senate at the time?

Barack Obama!

Say it ain't so, Joe!

Biden continued -- It’s one thing for a local company to outsource a call service, but for the state government to outsource a call service that’s set up to answer questions for people in the state with a problem they had in their government, to outsource that?

Iowa sent nearly $1 Million dollars to an out of state firm, National Jewish Health in Colorado, to run it's quit smoking line.

I'll wager Biden's home state of Delaware does the same thing for its Quitline.

At the time Joe Biden was their Senator, Delaware's QuitPower was operated by a Minnesota-based company.

Kind Of A Drag

Earlier this week President Obama described his debate prep as a drag.

It showed and the scientific community is united in that fact.


The tie choice, red for Romney and blue for Obama, played to type.

I loved Romney's Trickle Down Government line.

It sounds like Obama's performance caused a little urine to trickle down Chris Matthews leg instead of the usual thrill going up.

Romney nailed Obama with his 2010 decision to extend the tax policies because when we're in recession you shouldn't raise taxes on anyone. Well, the economy is still growing slow. As a matter of fact, it's growing much more slowly now than when you made that statement.

Romney scored with $90 billion — like 50 years worth of breaks — into solar and wind, to — to Solyndra and Fisker and Tesla and Ener1. I mean, I — I had a friend who said, you don't just pick the winners and losers; you pick the losers.

Romney schooled Obama on tax breaks to companies that are shipping jobs overseas.

Look, I've been in business for 25 years. I have no idea what you're talking about. I maybe need to get a new accountant  — the idea that you get a break for shipping jobs overseas is simply not the case.

Does anyone believe that Obama's grandmother ended up living alone by choice because of Social Security and Medicare?

Obama told us she had been a bank Vice President.

In his closing remarks, Obama said  four years ago...I promised that I'd fight every single day on behalf of the American people and the middle class and all those who are striving to get in the middle class. I've kept that promise and if you'll vote for me, then I promise I'll fight just as hard in a second term.

Obama's worked harder at golf than he has for the middle class.

It was a tough night for fiberals, especially Michael Moore -- This is what happens when u pick John Kerry as your debate coach, and Bill Maher -- i can't believe i'm saying this, but Obama looks like he DOES need a teleprompter.

I know Jim Lehrer got heat as moderator, especially from Team Obama spokesperson Stephanie Cutter -- "I sometimes wondered if we even needed a moderator because we had Mitt Romney", but I liked how he didn't interfere and let Obama and Romney go at it.

The Big Crash?

A group called Progress Iowa tried to organize a Crash Mitt Romney's Private Country Club Event!

They extended 37 online invites to such heavyweights as Danny Homan and ASSME Iowa; Ken Sagar; Bonnie Campbell; Mari Culver; Charlie Wishman and John Deeth.

According to the Ragister, 15 or 20 people showed up for the street demonstration, including many with ties to unions, the activist group Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement and other liberal organizations.

That shouldn't merit media coverage and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Protesters quoted include, Ryan Maher (a Socialist brother to Bill), who state brilliantly on a sign -- “Hey, Mr. One Percent, open up your country club event to the real job creators.”

And that would be a carpet layer from Des Moines?

When you look and think like Ryan, the only thing you can lay is carpet.

Also in attendance were Jan Laue who said -- “Mitt Romney and his rich benefactors are behind the gate while ordinary people are out on the street. It’s symbolic of what would happen if Mitt Romney were elected.”

As you can see from our first picture Laue is correct, as there has been a fence around the White House since 1876.

Michael Hunt, a spokesman for the Iowa Democratic Party, wore a Mitt Romney Halloween mask as he held a sign criticizing “Romney economics.”

You Do The Math

The Liter knows first hand (we count on both hands actually) that math is hard, and the scientific community is united in that fact, apparently things don't add up for Rick Santorum either.

Santorum: I'll beat Romney if Gingrich drops out

The candidate indicated that Newt Gingrich should drop out of the presidential race, arguing that splitting the "anti-Romney" vote helped Mitt Romney win the Michigan primary and Washington caucuses and contributes to his overall success so far.

"It's always harder when you've got two conservatives running in the race as we have seen in Washington and we've seen in other states".

According to these Washington results, the Santorum/Gingrich vote falls 1,801 short of Romney...

Mitt Romney -- 19,111 (38%)

Ron Paul -- 12,594 (25%)

Rick Santorum -- 12,089 (24%)

Newt Gingrich -- 5,221 (10%)

Also, one should never ASSume that the conservative vote will coalesce.

Leather Glove

Chris and I have come to the conclusion we're going to Caucus for Mitt Romney tomorrow night.

I had been leaning towards Rick Santorum, since Tim Pawlenty dropped out after the Straw Poll, but I was never comfortable with the drubbing he took in his 2006 Senate re-election bid.

I started moving towards Romney in an effort to stop Ron Paul from winning on Tuesday.

I then vacillated, or waffled, between Santorum and Romney from day to day and figured I would decide after judging the strength of Paul in my precinct.

I became completely comfortable with Romney because of this ad --

“When generations of immigrants looked up and saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time, one thing they knew beyond any doubt … is they were coming to a place where anything was possible; that in America, their children would have a better life.

“I believe in that America. The spirit of enterprise, innovation, pioneering and can-do propelled our standard of living and economy past that of any other nation on Earth.

“And in the campaign to come, the American ideals of economic freedom and opportunity need a clear and unapologetic defense. And I intend to make it because I have lived it.

“We stand for freedom and opportunity and hope. The principles that made this nation a great and powerful leader of the world have not lost their meaning — they never will.

“I’m Mitt Romney, I believe in America, and I’m running for President of the United States.”

That's Reagan-esque.

This is the man that can beat Barack Obama and begin to bring this Country back from the brink.

Would I Lie To You?

You don't have to take Mitt Romney's word about having no role whatsoever in the management of Bain Capital after February of 1999.

CNN's John King found two Obama-backing former Bain executives who stated, unequivocally, that Romney stopped having a role in Bain’s decision making in 1999.

Which gives it a certain air of truthiness and the scientific community is united in that fact.

But wait, there's more -- is there anything other than the SEC filings to suggest a hands-on Romney role at Bain post-February 1999?
 
No is the word from four sources who communicated with CNN on Thursday — all of whom have firsthand knowledge of Bain’s operations at the time in question. Three of the four are Democrats, and two of the four are active Obama supporters in Campaign 2012. All four told me Romney is telling the truth.

Bain Managing Director Steve Pagliuca, a Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2010, told CNN: “Mitt Romney left Bain Capital in February 1999 to run the Olympics and has had absolutely no involvement with the management or investment activities of the firm or with any of its portfolio companies since the day of his departure.”

That's the same Stephen Pagliuca who last year outsourced some of his income, $35,800, to Barack Obama’s Victory Fund.

He's quick on his feet

Back on September 28th I opined on '08 Republicans.

It was after I had seen Mitt Romney speak at The Principal and I was feeling a little disappointed.

I was impressed with how he handled questions from the audience, even correcting some woman who'd said the Pentagon takes over 50% of the budget.

He'd also smacked down John Kerry, in August, over Osama bin Laden still being at large...

"I think it shows a complete lack of understanding of the kind of enemy that we're facing. This is not a small group of wackos in the hills that all we have to do is go find one person and it suddenly goes away."

Here's the latest I found from the Massachusetts Governor...

A reporter from the Boston Globe asked Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney a rambling question about removing some tolls from the Mass. Turnpike. Eventually, Romney interrupted by joking, "Do you have a point of view on this?" The reporter responded, "I represent the people, governor." To which Romney said, "No, I represent the people, you represent the media."

According to a top aide, Romney plans to file papers establishing a presidential committee by mid-December and will be ready to start raising money for it on New Year's Day.

Something Familiar

While watching Mitt Romney introduce his running mate, Paul Ryan, as the next president of the United States, I told Chris that Obama did the same thing four years earlier with Biden.

"Let me introduce to you the next president".

Biden then returned the gaffe by calling Obama, the next President of the United States Barack America.

Ryan's flub was stating, "That man is standing right next to me. His name is Mitt Romney."

Romney was off the podium, standing next to his wife.

Iowa Dummycrats were quick to slam Romney's choice, with the Ragister quoting current Party Chair Sue Dvorsky and former chair Rob Tully.

Michael Kiernan, another former Dummycrat chair, apparently could not be reached for comment and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Probably out driving for tacos, when he should have had a walking taco.

Reporters kicked off their own elevator

After a meeting last week with the Ragister a couple of reporters followed the Governor to the elevator and continued to ask him questions.

As Culver stepped into one of the newspaper's elevators, the reporters followed him. But the governor held the door open and told reporters to get out.

"Actually, no, we're done," Culver said, pointing for them to step off the elevator...

One of the things I loved about Mitt Romney was his own press encounter.

Make Up Your Mind

Obama spokeswomen Sue Dvorsky and Stephanie Cutter had mixed messages about Mitt Romney's recent words on abortion.

Dvorsky said -- Mitt Romney just yesterday in this state – in our state, right down the road – Mitt Romney changed his mind again.

Minutes later Cutter corrected Dvorsky on Romney --  He didn’t change his mind about these issues, he’s just trying to hide them. That’s the difference here.

Ladies, your argument loses all merit, and you look foolish, when you send out these mixed messages and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Communication Breakdown

For 163 years and tens of thousands of editions, The Des Moines Register has delivered the news that Iowa depends upon.

Now you can depend on them to just deliver faux pas and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The problem is that Romney, as correctly reported in the story but incorrect in the stories URL, is speaking at the Hotel Fort Des Moines.

Somebody should be embarrassed, but the Register won't be.

As a matter of fact, you'll have to start paying for errors like that.

'08 Republicans

For a few months I've been searching for who I think should be the nominee in 2008.

I remember in April watching Senator George Allen stumble in a speech to a group of Republicans in South Carolina and thinking I couldn't get on that bandwagon.

Recently I had been discussing '08 with my friend Cal and told him I was giving Mitt Romney consideration.

Thanks to my lovely wife, I was fortunate to attend Governor Mitt Romney's speech at The Principal yesterday.

He spent the first few minutes talking about his background as a venture capitalist, head of the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Games and Governor of Massachusetts.

He then addressed his outline for America's future and I agree with Governor Romney on the 5 issues facing our country:

Defeating the Jihadists

Raising the Bar on Education-stressing our need to compete with Asia.

Stopping Runaway Spending

Achieving Energy Independence-He's for drilling at ANWAR and off the Gulf Coast.

Affirming America’s Culture and Values.

He also did a nice job handling questions, at one point correcting a woman who said the Department of Defense takes over 50% of the budget and pointing out that he would not cut the Pentagon's budget, but spend wisely.

We sat in the front row and Governor Romney came down and shook our hands afterwards.

I have to admit I'm feeling ambivalent towards him personally. He just came across as too polished and slick. I guess I'm looking for someone I can connect with, like I did with George W. Bush.

I know I can connect with Mayor Rudy Giuliani, maybe it's a DAGO thing, he is passionate.

He also comes across Presidential when he does things like this...

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani characterized Bill and Hillary Clinton's recent criticism of President Bush's efforts to stop Osama bin Laden before 9/11 as a "mistake" and said it's time to "stop this blame thing" over who is responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks.

The real fault for 9/11, Giuliani says, lies squarely with the Islamic terrorists.

"Americans didn't do Sept. 11, the Islamic terrorists did."

"...Islamic fanatics who came here and killed us and want to come here and do it again".

It's a good thing time is on my side.

We're talking Kennedy cash

Mitt Romney is expected to report financial assets between $190 million and $250 million, an amount that would likely make him the wealthiest of the 2008 presidential candidates.

Romney also has a blind trust for his children and grandchildren that is estimated to hold assets between $70 million and $100 million...

Romney has five sons, five daughters-in-law and 10 grandchildren.

Would he like a 6th?

I could see myself in the family photo, back row center.

I'd happily change my name to Glove, Shoe or Pants and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Po' Boy John Edwards is probably the richest Dummycrat with a 2003 net worth between $12.8 Million and $60 Million.

Shouldn't he be sharing the wealth?

After all, Edwards has said in Iowa..."Every single one of us, every single person in this room, has equal worth...".

Hellary follows with a 2005 net worth between $10 Million and $50 Million.

It gives a whole new meaning to what she said in Iowa, and another reason not to vote for her..."Rich people didn't make American great."

Dirty Harry

Nice drive by Harry Reid did on fellow Mormon Mitt Romney.

Reid claimed that a Bain Capital investor told him that Mitt Romney didn't pay any taxes for a 10-year period.

If Romney hadn't paid taxes in 10 years, the Obama administration would have already leaked that information and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Reid has a history of this type of anonymous innuendo.

Back in 2008 Reid told the press -- "...One of the individuals in the caucus today talked about a major insurance company. A major insurance company -- one with a name that everyone knows that's on the verge of going bankrupt..."

That little comment at the time, along with the Ragister's irresponsibility, helped sink Iowa based Principal Financial Group's stock 15.5 percent.

The Interview

In an interview with the Associated Press, President Obama agreed that in regards to the economy, America was not "where we need to be".

That's the understatement of the young millennium, as Obama's so called recovery sucks more than the worst recession since the Great Depression.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Obama added: "Governor Romney's policies would make things worse for middle-class families and offer no prospect for long-term opportunity for those striving to get into the middle class."

Let me see if I get this right, President Obama's recovery has an increase of 18 million people, to 46 million Americans now receiving food stamps and a 10 million person increase in the number of individuals receiving welfare, to 107 million, or more than one-third of the U.S. population, but Mitt Romney is going to make things worse?

President Please!

Obama also told the AP, how he would govern in a second term of divided government, insisting rosily that the forces of the election would help break Washington's stalemate. He said he would be willing to make a range of compromises with Republicans

Obama also criticized Romney, saying he has a "lack of willingness to take responsibility for what this job entails."

By that Obama means 

Doth I Protest Too Much?

A gathering of 25 to 30 Dummycrats, Unionists and assorted other Fiberals gathered in Bettendorf to protest Mitt Romney's appearance.

Most of the Unionists were probably on union paid time to be there, which accounts for the low turnout, as unions can't afford it.

Since Obama took office, the numbers for union membership have shrunk. Nationally between 2008 and 2011, public and private union membership dropped by 3.3 percent. The numbers in the Midwest are more dramatic: a 14.5 percent slide in Wisconsin, 13.9 percent in Indiana, 12.9 in Michigan, 9.7 in Ohio, 8.1 in Pennsylvania, and 6.7 in Illinois, according to UnionStats.com.

Sue Dvorsky, Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman, vowed to discuss the jobs and economy with Republicans every time there’s a Romney campaign event in Iowa.

It's obvious that jobs and the economy suck so bad under President Obama he doesn't want to talk about it and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Our pal Charlie Wishman (pictured below) was there and said -- Working men and women would suffer in a Romney presidency. He noted that President Barack Obama’s agenda would benefit the U.S., but he is too often blocked by the “obstructionist Congress.”

He must have been referring to the DO NOTHING DUMMYCRATS who control the Senate and are shirking their responsibility to pass a budget for three straight years in violation of federal law.

Occupied Our Cock-eye

We ducked out of our precinct caucus during platform debate.

There was one fewer attendee than 4 years ago when we had 106 participate.

The results from my precinct caucus are...

Ron Paul -- 41

That's an increase from his 2008 total of 17.

Rick Santorum -- 22.

Mitt Romney -- 16.

Romney's results were the exact same as four years ago.

Rick Perry -- 15.

Newt Gingrich -- 8.

Michele Bachmann -- 3.

Another precinct caucused in the same building and I was able to obtain their results.

This precinct saw an increase from their 2008 turnout of 82 participants, with a total of 103.

Ron Paul -- 29.

Which was 20 more votes than four years ago.

Rick Santorum -- 22.

Newt Gingrich -- 22.

Mitt Romney -- 17.

That's 6 fewer votes than in 2008.

Michele Bachmann -- 9.

Rick Perry -- 4.

Taco

I was having lunch, with our friend Cal (Freedom's pal), when David Oman walked into Raul's.

I asked him how it was looking for Romney in Iowa and he thought it was looking good.

Oman asked if we watched the debate and Cal and I called it a draw, but were disappointed Romney didn't attack green energy again, especially with the news of A123 filing for bankruptcy.

We all noted how sad it is Obama scored points for just being better than last time and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I mentioned Obama's first debate disinterest as merely being an extension of his duties as President.

I asked Mr. Oman when we could expect Romney back in Iowa and he thought within the next 8 days.

Come Together?

On the campaign trail recently, President Obama has said now is not the time for 'petty differences between parties.

Then he attacked Mitt Romney

Joe Biden said he is hopeful the “fever of partisanship is going to break” after the election.

Before he attacked Mitt Romney.

Harry Reid is the reality that are Dummycrats -- “Mitt Romney’s fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his 'severely conservative' agenda is laughable”.

Democrats are masters of do as I say, not as I do and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Saturday in the Park (ing lot)

To me the Iowa Straw Poll is like the Iowa State Fair, only with a better class of people (for the most part).

Cal and I got there around 11 a.m. (in the morning?) and headed off to vote.

I got numerous compliments on my "Viva La REAGAN Revolucion" T-shirt, including Republican House Minority Leader Christopher Rants, who remembered me from a previous life.

Cal voted for Tom Tancredo and I cast my ballot for Rudy Giuliani.

I've taken some heat from conservative friends for that, mainly because he's pro-choice.

My response has been that pro-life President's haven't changed anything.

Here's why I like Rudy...

His 12 Commitments to Voters:

*I will keep America on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us.
*I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizen in our nation.
*I will restore fiscal discipline and cut wasteful Washington spending.
*I will cut taxes and reform the tax code.
*I will impose accountability on Washington.
*I will lead America towards energy independence.
*I will give Americans more control over and access to health care with affordable and portable free-market solutions.
*I will increase adoptions, decrease abortions, and protect the quality of life for our children.
*I will reform the legal system and appoint strict constructionist judges.
*I will ensure that every community in America is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.
*I will provide access to a quality education to every child in America by giving real school choice to parents.
*I will expand America’s involvement in the global economy and strengthen our reputation around the world.

Plus, it's an Italian thing. I guess he's my Paesan, my Goombah.

After voting we ate some BBQ, the sauce was a little too sweet for me, and then went into Hilton for the candidate's speeches.

I thought Mitt Romney did a good job, certainly the best of what I saw.

I loved the slam at John Edwards and his $250 savings plan for Americans.

Romney noted that $250 wouldn't even pay for an Edwards hair cut.

Tom Tancredo had some good lines, but he needs to learn how to give a speech.

Why did we have to have our time wasted with John Cox?

Ron Paul scares me.

He's a contradiction inside an enigma wrapped up in a conundrum.

Don't tell me that 9/11 could have been prevented with a lot more respect for the 2nd Amendment, the terrorists would have taken guns on board the planes instead of box cutters.

Don't tell me we need to get back to the Constitution and you're a firm believer in the rule of law, that same Constitution allows Congress to make law.

Don't tell me the U.S. can't be the world's policeman and then offer a bill to allow anyone to hunt Osama bin Laden.

Don't tell me we must preserve all life and then have a bounty on bin Laden's head.

There were signs throughout Ames for his "revolution", more like Devolution!

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

He says he's an OB/GYN, but if my wife were pregnant I wouldn't let him near her.

Mike Huckabee has no fire with his brimstone.

We left after Huckabee.

The voting results were to be announced at 7 p.m. (in the evening?), but weren't released until around 8:40 p.m.

Congratulations to the Republican Party for lending credence to the Paul supporters who filed suit trying to stop the use of optical scanners to count votes.

On Friday the Story County Election Commissioner expressed confidence in Story County's machines, saying testing shows they are counting votes correctly.

"This is a very secure process, and we wouldn't want a machine that wasn't functioning properly."

On Saturday that's exactly what they got...a party official confirmed one voting machine malfunctioned and that tabulators recounted at least 1500 ballots.

Final results 14,203 ballots were cast:

Mitt Romney won the 2007 Ames straw poll, receiving 4516 votes.

Mike Huckabee finished second with 2587 votes.

Third-Sam Brownback with 2192 votes.

Fourth-Tom Tancredo with 1961 votes.

Fifth-Ron Paul with 1305 votes.

Sixth-Tommy Thompson, 1,039 votes.

Seventh-Fred Thomson with 203 votes.

Eighth-Rudy Giuliani with 183 votes.

Ninth-Duncan Hunter with 174 votes.

Tenth-John McCain with 101 votes.

Eleventh-John Cox with 41 votes.

Let the winnowing of the field begin.
