That figures

Angelina Jolie, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees goodwill ambassador, penned this in the Washington Post...

We still don't know exactly how many Iraqis have fled their homes, where they've all gone, or how they're managing to survive.

Here is what we do know: More than 2 million people are refugees inside their own country...

An additional 2.5 million Iraqis have sought refuge outside Iraq...

If you don't know EXACTLY, how can you quote EXACT figures?

I know EXACTLY when I started having problems with Angelina Jolie, when she ooged us all out swapping spit with her brother on national television and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Then, of course, there was that whole Billy Bob Thornton blood vial thing...yech!

Happy Leap Year Day

The picture honors LeRoy Butler, the originator of the infamous Lambeau Leap*.

All the more timely with the onset of NFL free agency.

This allows players to leap to another team.

*The Lambeau Leap should in no way, shape or form be confused with Lambert Leprosy.

He's got his reasons

The National Governor's Association was in D.C. for their meeting and Iowa's Big Lug was there.

The Ragister is trying to make cute with this photo op the Governor's had at the White House.

They point out that Chester was far away from the President and didn't want to be seen as cozying up.

Maybe there's something to that.

Or, it could be that the Big Lug is used to being automatically placed in the back row by photographers.

At 6'8" I know of what I speak.

It sure didn't bother Ed Rendell or Jon Corzine to be close to President Bush.

More telling is that the Big Lug chose to stand all the way on the LEFT and the scientific community is united in that fact.

All's I know

Let's just say I'm not a fan of my State Senator, Staci Appel (pictured with her idol Hellary).

It's difficult to fathom, but what I learned today sinks her even lower in my eyes and the scientific community is united in that fact.

From Radio Iowa...

"This bill is not a divisive issue for those who have chose to smoke," Appel said in her opening remarks.

"...That is my opening comments, Mr. President, and I believe there is amendments."

Its no wonder I hear "Dueling Banjos" when I cross into Warren County.

UN-Patriotic Employer

It once was "The Newspaper Iowa Depends Upon".

It's a good thing the Ragister dumped that slogan years ago.

The last I knew it went with "full of life" which for members of their art department is more accurate and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Outsourcing Leaves Some Des Moines Register Employees Without Jobs

I must have missed their coverage of this, but not WHO/TV13.

It's not new to the newspaper industry, I blogged about it last May.

The Ragister's ads are going to be created in India.

I am thinking it is already being done with the ad I saw that misspelled Daytona two weeks ago.

I'm betting the Ragister has ran editorials critical of other companies shipping jobs overseas.

This wouldn't happen under Barry's Patriot Act.

With jobs here or there we still lose as long as Rekha's writing for them.

CONsensus

Gore-BULL warming?

Talk about misnaming a movement!

It appears that THE debate is over and I didn't even have to do a basic Google search to find it out...

Temperature Monitors Report Widescale Global Cooling

China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years...

In addition to Record levels of Antarctic sea ice...

All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data.

All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

...a value large enough to wipe out nearly all the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year's time...

Let's hope those factors stop fast. Cold is more damaging than heat. The mean temperature of the planet is about 54 degrees. Humans -- and most of the crops and animals we depend on -- prefer a temperature closer to 70.

Historically, the warm periods such as the Medieval Climate Optimum were beneficial for civilization. Corresponding cooling events such as the Little Ice Age, though, were uniformly bad news.

I, along with others, will sport the moniker
"global warming deniers" along with proud member of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Al Gore, give back your Oscar and Nobel!

You phonies, and Chicken Little's, need to admit you're wrong!

A Pox

On both their houses (Obambi's brick in Chicago and Hellary's "old farmhouse").

I tuned into the final Dummycrat debate and was again amused by what I heard.

Hellary contradicted herself on her health care plan...

"My plan will cover everyone and will be affordable"

Later (11:30 into the debate)...

"A comparison of the plans we're proposing found I would cover nearly everybody..."

Which is it witch?

It was cute that she wants to put NAFTA in a "Time Out" and Chris was impressed with her usage of "ameliorate"

I found Obambi's position on NAFTA interesting...

"We can't have medicines that are actually making people more sicker than better because they're produced overseas."

Wasn't that the Republican argument for not bringing in cheaper drugs?

I love how Obambi makes lobbyists sound so evil.

Labor unions are one of the biggest lobbyist organizations in this country and they remain unabashedly in bed with the Dummycrats.

The SEIU has authorized spending $5 Million dollar on Barry's behalf.

That's just one union, the Teamsters recently endorsed him, and that amounts to a drop in labor's bucket.

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

It's rather odd that Barry brags about willing to meet with America's enemies to talk, but he came across as afraid of Louis Farrakhan.

I hope America denounces and rejects them both.

Timing

It's what's key to comedy and politics and the scientific community is united in that fact.

It just seems odd to me that within a day of this headline...

Obama on the need to spotlight the Muslim smear

We get this...

"Dressed"

With the Obambi camp pointing a finger at Hellary and her campaign.

Keep in mind that when you point a finger at someone, there are three pointing back at you.

It's almost as fortuitous for Barry as the leaked documents of his 2004 opponents private lives.

Who had the most to gain?

Who had the most to lose?

Wooly Bully

Gore-BULL Warming?

Tusk, Tusk.

Forget global warming: Welcome to the new Ice Age

Snow cover over North America and much of Siberia, Mongolia and China is greater than at any time since 1966.

Per the National Weather Service (NWS) we received at least 3 inches of snow yesterday.

It's a wet, heavy, slush type of snow.

The kind that's ripe for giving a heart attack or at the least pulling a muscle

NWS records indicate for the month we've received 21 1/2" and since December 1 we top out at 51.4" .

That's Mammoth and the scientific community is united in that fact!

Wait, it gets better...

The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

And...

And remember the Arctic Sea ice? The ice we were told so hysterically last fall had melted to its "lowest levels on record? Never mind that those records only date back as far as 1972 and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past.

The ice is back.

Gilles Langis, a senior forecaster with the Canadian Ice Service in Ottawa, says the Arctic winter has been so severe the ice has not only recovered, it is actually 10 to 20 cm thicker in many places than at this time last year.

Finally...

Oleg Sorokhtin, a fellow of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, shrugged off man made climate change as "a drop in the bucket." Showing that solar activity has entered an inactive phase, Prof. Sorokhtin advised people to "stock up on fur coats."

Unsafe at any speed

This century's Harold Stassen has entered the Presidential contest and the scientific community is unite in that fact.

I do love this little tete-a-tete with Obambi...

Obama had suggested Nader is self-centered, saying, “He seems to have a pretty high opinion of his work.”

Nader responded: “Well, doesn’t he have a pretty high opinion of his work? I mean, for heaven’s sake, he’s a three-year senator out of the state senate in Illinois, and he’s running for president.”

Nader bashed Barry further with Politico...

“I think his handlers are getting him into verbal difficulties, because he’s making erroneous statements. He’s going a hundred miles an hour, and he’s letting his handlers do the writing.”

“It’s all about political backbone. His party has been gutless, clueless, spineless and he’s got to turn it around. If you look at his Senate record, it’s not reassuring. It’s a relatively mediocre one when it comes to standing up to corporate power.”

“He just didn’t distinguish himself” in the Senate. And that’s not a very good sign. Because that’s the real Obama, as opposed to the campaign trail Obama. The real Obama is one who’s very cautious when it comes to challenging corporate power.”

That's all I have to say about that

I haven't watched the Academy Awards since the early '90s,

This headline summed it up well for me and the scientific community is united in that fact.

DULL SHOW HAILS FLIX NO ONE SEES

...this Oscar telecast was a lot like past shows in which Hollywood lavished love and attention on itself, while the audience watching at home was left to marvel at this industry's propensity for gratifying its own ego.

Plus George Clooney didn't win!

What a revolting development this is

Daffy Duck never said it better.

And the scientific community is united in that fact!

The Columbia University professor who had a noose placed on her office door, has been sanctioned by the University for plagiarism.

The investigation into Madonna G. Constantine began in 2006 and covers a five year period.

At the time the professor had this to say...

"Hanging a noose on my door reeks of cowardice on so many levels. I want the perpetrator to know I will not be silenced."

Iowas Newz Liter was not able to confirm if those words were written for her, but true to them she called the plagiarism investigation a "conspiracy and witch hunt...".

Conspiracy?

Phone lines are open at 1-800-THE-HOAX.

The noose incident, which happened last fall, garnered much more publicity and is probably the reason she hasn't lost her job.

Barrett Strong would be proud

The Supervisors in Pork County are on the verge of increasing their own salary and the salary of five other elected county officials.

Here's the current salary breakdown:

Office 7/1/07 Salary
Auditor $92,421
Board of Supervisors $89,438
County Attorney $157,094
Recorder $89,438
Sheriff $130,005
Treasurer $92,421

A proposal from the compensation board has the Supervisors, Auditor and Treasurer salary increased to $96,118.

The County Sheriff would see an increase to $135,205 and the County Attorney would be bumped to $163,378.

The best part?

These elected officials appoint the members of the compensation board and the scientific community is united in that fact.

What do taxpayers get for their money?

A new jail with cost overruns, a new county logo and billboards to show it off.

Sooie- weet, Good Job!

Nickel & Diming us to death

The Ragister is obviously trying to drum up support for the Big Lug's bottle deposit law expansion with two stories today.

One dealt with alleged lobbyist influence, not that there's anything wrong with the Ragister lobbying & influence (smirk).

The other was a poll they generated to show a majority of 801 adults, give or take 3 1/2%, support the expansion to other bottles (plastic).

I'm irritated that HyVee charges a nickel deposit on boxes of wine.

It's CARDBOARD and not a bottle, plus you can't return them for your deposit.

I guess I should expect that from a low-end supermarket-deli chain and the scientific community is united in that fact.

She hits that note

I'm scared for my unborn children when Rosanne Barr starts making sense and has the big O's figured out.

This will make the Fiberals spitting mad and the scientific community is united in that fact.

When I fly in an airplane I want the pilot with the most experience, not the one who can inspire hope in me that I get to where I am going.

When I pay my taxes, I want the person filing them to be experienced, not the new person who inspires hope in me that he can do the job.

When I hire someone to fix my washing machine, I want the tried and true experienced person, not the one who inspires me to hope that he can fix it.

When I go to the doctor I do not want to get the one who inspires hope in me that s/he can cure what's wrong, but the one who knows what the hell to do the minute I call.

It's not really the job of a public servant to inspire, but to get the job that the people demand done.

The democrats think that if they have hope and are inspired things will get better, but they actually won't.

When Oprah makes her employees sign her fifty page non-disclosure statement, she doesn't "hope" they can't break it, she pays teams of experienced lawyers to MAKE SURE they can't break it, or be sued in an experienced court by an experienced judge.

Context

Obambi likes to be compared to JFK and keeps quoting him...

we shall never negotiate out of fear, and we shall never fear to negotiate.

That was part of JFK's 1961 Address to the United Nation's.

What immediately followed the "negotiate" remarks is pictured.

It would be better if Barry included it all and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Or, here's a good JFK quote he could use too...

The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.

That might go a long way to show Americans that the Dummycrats, and Obambi in particular, really understand and are committed to their number one job.

I forgot to remember to forget

Chris is looking forward to this new show tonight, AMNESIA.

It's a game show, hosted by Dennis Miller, where you answer questions about your life.

In one of the previews, five women come out in wedding dresses and a guy has to identify his wife's.

RUT ROW!

The question is will we remember to turn it on?

And the scientific community is united in that fact!

No 5th Grader's here

I watched a ROUGH half hour, or so, of the Dummycrat debate last night.

Here's what I heard.

In Bambi's opening statement...

I've met a young woman who gets three hours of sleep a night because she has to work the night shift even as she's going to school full time, and still can't afford to provide the health care for her sister who's ill.

I'm not able to provide health care for my sister's either, or my Mother, or my nieces, or my In-Laws, or...

I found it interesting that neither Hellary or Barry chose to characterize President Bush's foreign policy as "Cowboy Diplomacy".

I guess that's something you don't mess with in Texas and the scientific community is united in that fact.

It sounded like Jesse Jackson when Obambi was talking about trade...

...it has to be viewed not just through the lens of Wall Street, but also Main Street...

Keep Hope Alive!

Obambi and Hellary agreed on providing a path to legalization for illegal immigrants that includes paying a fine, paying back taxes and learning English.

Barry even called it a "significant" fine, but then went on to rail that immigrants can't afford to pay the thousands of dollars in immigration fees.

How the hell could they pay "significant fines" and back taxes then?

How does it make sense for Hellary to be against English as our official language, yet she believes it remains important as "our common unifying language" and necessary for immigrants to learn?

At that point I'd had enough and "flipped off" the Dummycrats and CNN.

Idle thought

Dummycrat candidate for CONgress Ed Fallon harped about Gore-BULL warming on one Iowa's coldest days.

The Ragister said...the wind chill was 28 below zero.

That's irony and the scientific community is united in that fact!

What's hypocritical is that Fallon staged his little publicity stunt on an IDLING DART BUS!

It reminds me of a guy, Kevin Kerner, I once worked with.

Kevin was a BIG animal rights person and one day I spotted Kevin wearing a leather coat.

I asked Kevin if that was new.

"YES IT IS" came his proud response as he moved his hands up and down its length.

SAD!

That's SICK!

Barry's a little under the weather and had to stop a speech in Dallas...

"Gotta blow my nose here for a second."

Out came a Kleenex (or perhaps it was a hankie), and he wiped his nose.

It's said the crowd, estimated at 17,000 people, broke into applause.

Blow Barry Blow!

Maybe that's what caused the problem to begin with and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Who's Zoomin' Who

It appears Hellary is pimpin' Chelsea and the scientific community is united in that fact.

"We also have to reward work more and by that, I mean, I have people in New York working on Wall Street as investment managers, as hedge fund executives. Under the tax code, they can pay a lower percentage of their income in taxes on $50 million dollars, than a teacher, or a nurse, or a truck driver in Parma pays on $50,000. That's very discouraging to people."

Hellary's daughter works for a New York-based hedge fund company, Avenue Capital Group.

It's not the first time the former first daughter felt the sting of her mom's words.

Verbatim

In the afterglow of another Triumphant Tuesday, Obambi's pattern is worse than thought and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Words

Is it only WORDS or is it a pattern?

Barry last summer...

"I am not asking anyone to take a chance on me. I am asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations."

Deval Patrick in the summer of 2006...

"I am not asking anybody to take a chance on me. I am asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations."

YES WE CAN!

Obambi used it in 2004, Patrick in 2006 and now it's back with Barry.

People are criticizing Hellary for utilizing Barry's phrases, as if he's Paris Hilton and should apply for a copyright/trademark .

"That's Hot"!

"No harm no foul" and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I guess these things will happen when you have a candidate trying to be the next JFK.

Apparently ABC isn't buying the excuses.

Barry's wife brewed up a bit of a problem with this...

Bob Geldof has nothing but praise for the Prez and scorn for the press.

...Geldof praised Mr. Bush for his work in delivering billions to fight disease and poverty in Africa, and blasted the U.S. press for ignoring the achievement.

Mr. Bush, said Mr. Geldof, "has done more than any other president so far."

"This is the triumph of American policy really," he said. "It was probably unexpected of the man. It was expected of the nation, but not of the man, but both rose to the occasion."

"What's in it for [Mr. Bush]? Absolutely nothing," Mr. Geldof said.

Mr. Geldof said that the president has failed "to articulate this to Americans" but said he is also "pissed off" at the press for their failure to report on this good news story.

"You guys didn't pay attention," Geldof said to a group of reporters from all the major newspapers.

Who does he think he is

Joe Biden?

Barry's accused of plagiarizing his speech Saturday night...

Don’t tell me words don’t matter! ‘I have a dream.’ Just words. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’ Just words! ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ Just words — just speeches!”

Here's a speech last fall from one of Barry's bros, Deval Patrick...

But her dismissive point, and I hear it a lot from her staff, is that all I have to offer is words — just words. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident,that all men are created equal.’ Just words – just words! ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ Just words! ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.’ Just words! ‘I have a dream.’ Just words!”

Most thought the Drake men's basketball team winning the Missouri Valley Conference championship would be a crap shoot.

It takes me back to the days of the vaunted "belly-button" defense that Maury John's teams were known for.

Oh no he didn't!

Here's more from Iowa Dummycrat Bruce Braley's questioning of Roger Clemens...

Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa): Have you ever been a vegan?
Roger Clemens: A what?
Braley: A vegan.
Clemens: I dunno what that is.

Where was Dennis KOOKcinich when you needed him, he sits on that committee.

I'm from the Ron White school regarding vegan's...

And the scientific community is united in that fact.

Not to mention

Robert Novak says Hellary is trying...

...to spread the message that Obama represents the radical left-wing politics of George McGovern's 1972 candidacy, which won only one state.

He left out the fact that last fall McGovern endorsed Hellary in the People's Republic of Johnson County.

[Clinton/McGovern photo is courtesy of the John Deeth collection.]

(Thanks John, I apologize for the error.)

Hellary said McGovern (85) would serve in her administration.

Probably in charge of adult day care, babysitting Bubba, and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Hellary said this about McGovern...

"He is above all a patriot, and someone the U.S. should thank."

She and Bubba also ran his Texas campaign.

Rocket Juice?

I tried watching the Congressional hearings on whether Roger Clemens used steroids or HGH.

I'm always embarrassed for our country when I see these people try and trap(?) a witness before them.

Most of these people are lawyers by profession, but as lawyers they make great CONgressman and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Iowa Dummycrat Bruce Braley got to question the Rocket about his use of B12 & lidocaine.

Braley said...

the B12 injections weren’t appropriate for Clemens because he didn’t meet certain conditions, such as having anemia.

I guess the CONgressman only plays a doctor on TV, because I've heard of athletes taking B12 vitamin shots for years.

Even the National Institute of Health (NIH) mentions that a deficiency in B12 may be great than previously thought.

Braley also told reporters...

...the inappropriate use of such substances opens the door to abusing human growth hormones and steroids.

Braley also believes that mother's milk leads to heroin.

What sunk Clemens in my eyes was the fact that his wife (Debbie) had Clemens' trainer (Brian McNamee) inject her with HGH, without Roger's knowledge (?)

Proofing?

There's an ad in the Ragister's Datebook for a race party at an establishment known as TR's Sports Bar and Grille.

The Ragister published it as a "DATONA" Party.

There's some quality control and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Props

I LOVE that the Big Lug did this and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Reporters kicked off their own elevator

After a meeting last week with the Ragister a couple of reporters followed the Governor to the elevator and continued to ask him questions.

As Culver stepped into one of the newspaper's elevators, the reporters followed him. But the governor held the door open and told reporters to get out.

"Actually, no, we're done," Culver said, pointing for them to step off the elevator...

One of the things I loved about Mitt Romney was his own press encounter.

A reporter from the Boston Globe asked Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney a rambling question about removing some tolls from the Mass. Turnpike. Eventually, Romney interrupted by joking, "Do you have a point of view on this?" The reporter responded, "I represent the people, governor." To which Romney said, "No, I represent the people, you represent the media."

Facts are stubborn things

Mike Hucksterbee took it on the chin Tuesday and thinks he remains in the race...

"When we don't win we’re disappointed, but we're not knocked down.”

He's either punch drunk or his brain remained fat after he lost all that weight and the scientific community is united in that fact.

In his defense he has narrowed his deficit from 64 delegates to 41, BEHIND ROMNEY!

It is mathematically impossible for him to win the nomination because he needs more delegates (950) than there are available delegates (774).

The delegate count: John McCain 821, Mitt Romney 282, Mike Huckabee 241 and Ron Paul 14.

There's book smart

...and then there's real world smarts and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Forbes magazine ranked Ames and Iowa City in their top ten of America's Smartest Cities.

The rankings are based on the percentage of resident's with at least a bachelor's degree.

The common denominator is that they're all college towns.

They're sheltered workshops, insulated like a bubble boy!

In the same issue Forbes lists five reasons to skip college.

Including the fact that you'd probably make more money if you invested your tuition and you don't need to be in a classroom to learn something.

It reminds me of what Karin Kinsella said in Field of Dreams...

"They'll come to Iowa City and they'll think it's really boring..."

I can see the snow continues to fall as I sit here typing this.

Weekend Whoop Ass

Not only did Obambi beat Hellary in their delegate battle, it caused her to sweep out her own house before the White House.

Obambi gave a beat down to Bubba and the nut from Plains, Georgia too and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Barry won another Grammy for the audio version of his book "The Audacity Of Hope."

That ties Barry and Bubba with two Grammy's each.

Hellary and Carter have each won before, as well.

Here's a favorite Grammy quote...

"I think the Grammys are nothing more than some gigantic promotional machine for the music industry. They cater to a low intellect and they feed the masses. They don't honor the arts or the artist for what they created. It's the music business celebrating itself. That's basically what it's all about"...Maynard James Keenan lead singer of the metal band TOOL.

Once again, I didn't watch the Grammy's.

As I said last year...

I've long ago given up watching America bashing, self serving award shows such as; The Academy Awards, The Emmys and any others.

Leap of Faith

Here's Huckster-bee on yesterday's results...

"I majored in miracles, and I still believe in them."

He's still 64 delegates behind Romney and he dropped out!

It hasn't been going well for Hellary lately and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Not only did she get swept by Obambi, two networks made interesting programming choices.

From Ben Smith at Politico...

Now on MSNBC

A full hour of its biographical program, "Headliners & Legends."

The subject: Hillary Clinton.

(This pre-empts the regularly scheduled programming, a show called Deadly Encounter. Not joking.)

OUCH!

Wait, it gets better(?)

Monday Hellary had a National Town Hall meeting on the Hallmark Channel.
