Off the Wagon

It took 6 1/2 months, but I penned my first letter(s) to the Editor(s).

One of the reasons I started blogging is because the Ragister lied when they advised me they would run a couple of letters I had sent them.

I was averaging 9 letters published every year.

When the last two letters didn't appear, I decided to find a different outlet for my need to pontificate.

However an opportunity came up to slam a couple of Dummycrats, in my district, running for the Statehouse. See Wednesdays posting, 'Legitimate Issue(s)'.

To the Ragister....

I reside in Senate District 37. I do not know Julian Garrett or Staci Appel and, unlike a previous writer, I have made no contributions to their campaigns. I believe the issues of conflict and hindrance that Mr. Garrett raised are legitimate. Ms. Appel has invaded my home with her campaign mailings, telephone calls, newspaper ads and television commercials in which she has talked of her four children. Not once did she mention a husband, leading my wife to believe she was a single mother raising her four kids alone. It was when Governor Vilsack named Brent Appel to the Iowa Supreme Court that I find out she was married. It feels deceitful and for obvious reasons. At that point I did some further checking on Ms. Appel and found she has given $3,000 to Hillary Clinton's two Senate campaigns. I also see she has raised over $100,000 for a state senate seat that currently pays a little over $21,000. I contacted Ms. Appel on 10/14 with my concerns and have yet to receive a response. These are not the values I seek in my elected representatives.

To the Indianola Weird Herald (also owned by the Ragister)...

I also see she has raised over $100,000 for a state senate seat that currently pays a little over $21,000. I contacted Ms. Appel on 10/14 with my concerns and have yet to receive a response.

As for my one contact with Mr. Davitt, I urged him to support legislation to require school districts to increase the spending that makes its way to the classroom from the current 59.5%, where Iowa ranks 38th, to 65% . This would force districts to adopt better business practices and free up $200 million to increase teacher salaries or reduce classroom size. His response, "Tell me which programs and departments you may be looking toward for the savings". He was too focused on his agenda to truly absorb what I was saying.

These are not the values I seek in my elected representatives.


Davitt is the husband of the Weird Herald's publisher Amy Duncan.

We'll see if they get published.

If so, how much they'll be edited. In the past they've really been gutted and at times have changed what I've actually written(can you say unethical?).

Hardly my best writing, but it'll irritate the Dummycrats in Warren County and my work here will be done....for now!

Is That All There Is?

The latest Staci Appel-sauce for brains e-mail was signed by Ann Montgomery, Mom and Appel Women for Change Member.

Ann said, "the latest poll has Staci in a great position to win next year."

Which poll is that Ann?

The October poll from the liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling and paid for by MoveOn.org?

That poll had Congressman Latham trailing a generic Democrat, 49 - 42, not the Dummycrat Staci Appel.

Political analyst David Wasserman of the Cook Political Report notes that his organization continues to rate the district as “likely Republican” for next year.

“At the moment we don’t see it as a competitive race.”

Wasserman said there is little evidence that Appel could draw more votes than Rep. Leonard Boswell, D-Iowa, did in his loss last year to Latham despite solid name recognition and a long-time bloc of supporters.

“If the election were held next week, Latham would win by a mile,” Wasserman said of Appel’s chances.
 
Montgomery also mentioned, ""New York Magazine had a great article about moms in Congress, which mentioned Staci and our strong campaign."

They then included a link to the "great article" about the "strong campaign".

In Iowa, former State Senator Staci Appel, a mother of six famous for campaigning pregnant, will make a run for the House.

Let me type that again backwards.

Serious?

Like pigs to the slaughter, some Iowa Dummycrats are wanting Staci Appel-sauce for brains to run for Congress against Tom Latham.

Proving my apple sauce for brains theory, and the scientific community is united in that fact, Staci said...

“I’m still very seriously considering it”.

Ed Skinner, described as a party godfather, believes Appel is the person who can beat Latham.

Dummycrat strategist Jeff Link said, “It will take a candidate of Appel’s caliber to make this a competitive race”.

Color these Dummycrats delusional as it will be about as competitive as their three previous high quality female candidates; Becky Greenwald (who lost to Latham by 21 points in 2008), Rozanne, err Taxanne Conlin (who lost to Chuck Grassley by 31 points in 2010) and Christie Vilsack (who lost to Steve King by 8 points in 2012).

Appel thinks her Iowa Senate accomplishments(?) of extension of health care coverage to Iowa children, the 4-year-old preschool program, a ban on smoking in restaurants and bars, and an increase in the minimum wage.

Don't forget Staci, you wanted an end to Federal Deductibility, your scheme to award Iowa's Electoral College votes to whichever candidate receives the most popular votes nationwide, regardless of who carries the state, the debt you saddled taxpayers with because of the borrowing scam known as I-JOBS and your sponsorship of the bill (SF193) that helped create the IDED tax credit film office fiasco.

The Ragister's Jennifer Jacobs filed this story and her original report (preserved by me) said "Appel took out a 10-year Republican incumbent, Julian Garrett, an Indianola attorney and farmer who had represented the district for nearly a decade".

Someone later cleaned up the report-errs as it was an open seat (incumbent Doug Shull had sought election as State Representative against Mark Davitt) which Garrett had not previously represented.

Rotten Appel?

According to the Ragister $269,866 has been spent in Senate District 37, that's the district I reside in.

The Dummycrat Staci Appel has outspent her Republican opponent Julian Garrett 12 to 1!

Yet on her web site claims to be fiscally responsible....

I would work to curb wasteful spending at the state government level and I would work to protect communities from tax increases....

She's wasting well over $250,000 on a political campaign for a seat that currently pays $21,000, No wonder she's now a homemaker and no longer a financial consultant!

This doesn't include money spent heavily by the Iowa Dummycrat Party on her behalf.

The Ragister also issued their endorsement of her today.

They admitted that the Republican Garrett is the more experienced of the two.

They also admitted with her husband, Brent, being appointed to the Iowa Supreme Court that she'll need to abstain from some votes in the legislature.

Supposedly it came down to her emphasis on education.

Checking each candidates web site I found these Education points...

Staci Appel:

I support making access to quality pre-school universally available to all Iowa children....regardless of income.

I support giving teachers the tools they need to succeed in the classroom including a fair wage.

I support adequate funding to maintain and enhance the quality of Iowa universities and to keep down the rising cost of tuition.

I support expanding scholarship opportunities for Iowa residents, increased investments, and special incentives to help control the cost of tuition.

Julian Garrett:

We must hold the line on spending and taxes to allow small business to prosper. The key to excellent schools.... is a growing economy

We do need to increase teacher's salaries, especially math and science teachers.

We must have accountability, rewarding teachers who do exceptional work.

Support for the classroom teachers, promoting better discipline is needed.


What I read is Ms. Appel wants to throw money at a purported problem and that means higher taxes!

The Ragister ends their editorial with the REAL reason they support Ms. Appel....

She also supports a woman's right to choose, while Garrett favors some restrictions on abortion. That might become a critical difference if the U.S. Supreme Court turns the abortion issue back to the states to decide.

I can't understand a woman who has given birth to four children who thinks it's o.k. to kill babies.

Iowa Values, Iowa Common Sense?

It was with his latest commercial that I finally figured out who Chester Culver reminds me of.

He's our Al Gore!

They were both born in Washington D.C. to a United States Senator, both went to school in that area and their daddies lost their seats to Republicans.

Both give awkward kisses to their wives to help their campaign, it doesn't work.

Gore practically swallowed Tipper befor his convention speech and Chester gets a peck from the mother of his children in their commercial.

Oh yeah, both are quite LARGE!

In an interesting development today. The Pickle, Governor Vilsack, appointed key Culver campaign advisor Brent Appel to the Iowa Supreme Court.

Appel ran Chester's daddies 1980 campaign, he lost to Senator Grassley. Appel ran, and lost, in 1982 to Congressman Tom Tauke. Attorney General Tom Miller hired the fellow Dubuquian to work for him. Appel's wife is running for the State Senate (I've had the pleasure of already voting against her, my fear is that she'll win).

The interesting part is there's a little over three weeks until election day. Does the Pickle think Chester's not going to win and that's why he's appointed this Dummycrat shill?

Brent Appel has contributed nearly $40,000 in the last 6 years to Dummycrats. Staci, a homemaker, has given $7,300 in the same time period. $3,000 of that went to Hillary Rodham Clinton!

I predict a takedown by Tom Latham of the failed one term Iowa State Senator.

In an e-mail I received, titled "Starting now", Appel calls me "Friend" and states -- "I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what the people of Iowa deserve. As a mom, businesswoman, and a state senator, I’ve been able to experience firsthand everything Iowa has to offer."

Everything?

All that from her $1.5 million dollar Ack!worth home South of SHADY OAKS Golf Course.

Just like at the start of her introductory video, Staci Appel is a cartoon.

Senate Seat 37

The Warren County weakly paper, the Old Weird Harold and Record Tribune, had a front page article on my State Representative Kent Sorenson taking on Staci Appel-sauce for brains to be my next State Senator.

Appel-sauce for brains gave them this quote...

"I look forward to a positive campaign based on the issues.

"I think the people of Distrcit 37 feel like it's a good fit having me represent them and I look forward to continuing to do so."

That just shows that Staci can't think and the scientific community is united in that fact.

For full disclosure, I have made financial contributions to Representative Sorenson, as well as exchanged e-mails and voted for him.

So with that in mind, it would have been nice to have a heads up that he was making this move, the last Sorenson's Straight Talk I received was on 9/26 and it was about the Republican plan for health care reform.

In it Sorenson misspelled the bullet point for Affordability as AFFORDIBILITY.

Good thing it wasn't a newsletter about education.

Staci continues to send out her weekly(?) updates the last one on September 25 with the one prior on September 10, showing it's weakly too.

Somebody's going to make a lot of money off this race, last time Appel had well over $250,000 to play with and outspent the Republican about 12 to 1.

In an aside, Appel's husband Brent (of the Iowa Supreme Court) was cited by the Indianola Police on September 16 for failure to obey a traffic control device.

He struck another vehicle and caused $3,000 damage to the victim's car and $2,000 to his own.

It's not the first time he didn't think he had to follow the law.

One bad Appel

Staci Wildebour Appel was elected to the Iowa State Senate in November 2006 and took the oath of office in January 2007.

Yet on her contributions to Hellary ($800) and the Iowa Dummycrats ($1,700) she lists her occupation as "Self/Homemaker".

Now granted serving in the legislature is only part time, but it does pay over $20,000 and that technically makes it a job.

That could be construed as a violation of Federal Law.

Staci, pictured with Joanie Phony, isn't consistent.

For contributions to Spencer for Congress she listed herself as State Senator, for Vilsack's failed Presidential run she put herself down as a State Representative and for a contribution to CommieTommie Harkin she went with "None/Homemaker".

Any way you slice it, Appel is an idiot and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I would believe her husband, Brent, who is a lawyer and a judge on the Iowa Supreme Court would want to give his wife better advise.

Appel's Way

The real power pair in this state are Supreme Court Justice Brent Appel and State Senator Staci Appel.

If it wasn't clear prior to today...

The Iowa Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling Friday finding that the state's same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making Iowa the third state where marriage is legal.

Or, with her scheme to tie Iowa's Electoral Votes to the popular vote

...both have too much power to remake Iowa into their vision and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Staci is up for re-election next year, but her husband won't be on the ballot until 2016.

I'm not sure why Emily's List promoting female pro-abortion candidates is news.

Congressional candidate Staci Appel wins Emily’s List recognition

It's not a first for Emily or Staci Appel-sauce for brains as they claim to have helped her get elected to the state senate.

They were probably on board four years later when she went down in flames.

In April, when Emily put Tom Latham "On Notice", they proclaimed -- there is major Democratic female talent waiting in the wings.

Yet, Staci Appel was the best they could come up with, and the scientific community is united in that fact, after she first did the Hokey Pokey with her candidacy...

Election Day

Staci Appel-sauce for brains is supporting David Adelman in the Des Moines At Large City Council race.

Why would Appel support a man, via a $250 contribution, over either of the two women in the race?

It must be because Adelman's a lawyer, like her hubby Brent, and has worked for the Iowa Dummycrats and National Dummycrats and the scientific community is united in that fact.

This is after all Michael Kiernan's seat, even though Des Moines City Council races are supposed to be non-partisan.

Appel's future opponent, Kent Sorenson will be speaking at a event put on by the Iowa Family Pac next Tuesday (11/10) in Norwalk at the Wright Place Community Center (7-9am).

The mailing I received also stated Danny Carroll would be speaking too.

The Big Lug Nut has a new TV spot, "Stronger Than Ever" is his second and according to it the BLN has "led our recovery when floods ravaged Iowa" and a "National publications praise Culver's "good fiscal management."

I find the STANDARDS for this "National Publication" to be POOR!

I'm seeing a pattern

Hellary was in my neck of the woods yesterday, that explains the smell.

She proudly stood behind another affirmative vote by criticizing the No Child Left Behind program.

Makes one wonder, if like her Iraq vote, she read anything at all about NCLB before her vote.

Hellary's criticism, capture by Radio Iowa, came in response to this question from a soon to be college graduate...

"Hi senator. I go to the school in town and I'm a music student and I'm about to graduate and I have a lot of friends who are going to be BMEs -- Bachelor of Music Education -- and they're great people and they really believe in their subject and but with this No Child Left Behind program, arts are being cut left and right. I'm afraid my friends aren't going to have jobs. I'm afraid I'm not going to have a job and I just remember in school having all these great music teachers who helped me and will you do something?"

It appears NCLB isn't tough enough and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Hellary's answer...

"Yes, I will. Anyone who's ever heard me sing on YouTube knows I can't sing."

"I mean, you know, it's really tragic because it always sounds right to my ears and I love to sing. I mean, you should hear me in the shower. It's operatic."

More like PATHETIC, I mean.

"You know, when I was in high school -- still deluded about my musical ability I tried out for the spring musical and the director was a friend of mine and he told me I could be in it as long as I just lip-sinced."

"You know, if you were stranded on a desert island the people you would want are the people who know how to make things and that is a legitimate form of learning so I get very passionate about this because I think we are in danger of narrowing curriculum and leaving children behind, the very opposite of what they expected to have happen."

This all occurred at a fund raiser for Freshman State Senator Staci Appel.

Afterwards Appel publicly endorsed Hellary, no surprise since she's given over $3,000 to her previous campaigns.

Appel, who always has that deer in the headlight look, just completed the first year of her four year term. She spent over $250,000 for a seat that pays $21,000.

In a final note, Friday Hellary welcomed CONgressman Alcee Hastings to her campaign as a National Co-Chair...

"I am delighted that Debbie and Alcee will take on leadership roles in my campaign," [Mrs.] Clinton said. "With their help, we will bring our message of change throughout Florida and across the country."

Hastings was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1988 and removed as a federal judge.

Hastings was found to have committed perjury and had conspired to solicit bribes/money from defendants in return for favorable treatment in his court.

It all depends on what your definition of change is.

Suffragette City

In 2009, when Staci Appel-sauce for brains was my State Senator, I contacted her about the Dummycrats desire to end Federal Deductibility (Very Taxing).

One of the downsides of that contact was that Staci took that to mean she could add me to her e-mail list and send me her propaganda...err newsletter.

Four years later, Staci has purloined that list from the State of Iowa and is using it to send me fundraising e-mails about her CONgressional campaign against Tom Latham.

I've received 26 such unsolicited fundraising e-mails since July, some from Staci, some from Loretta Sackey, Ben Miller, Nathan Arentsen, Louis Frankel, Paul Begala, Steve Israel and Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi wishes "she could have more leaders like Staci in Congress", by that she must mean mindless drones and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The House Minority Leader showed her leadership by being absent for Saturday's House vote on the Continuing Resolution.

Pelosi also urged me to "chip in $3" before today's "critical fundraising deadline".

Pelosi must not have a lot of faith, Staci's e-mails ask for $5.

Congressional candidates face deadline, seek cash

One of the e-mails from Staci stated, "Not sure if you knew this -- but, in 167 years, Iowa has failed to send a woman to Congress to represent them".

Iowa has been a state for nearly 167 years, but the first woman in Congress was a Republican elected 97 years ago.

For most Women, they've only had the right to vote for 93 years.

Current fundraising reports show Appel with $0.

I've given and will continue to give $0, because Staci Appel remains a zero to me.

Legitimate Issue(s)

The Ragister has a story today about the new power couple in Iowa, the Appels.

Brent and Staci, pictured (small like all Dummycrats), are coming across as Clinton wannabes.

As I mentioned Friday (Iowa Values, Iowa Common Sense?), Brent has been appointed by the Pickle to the Iowa Supreme Court. His wife is running for the Iowa Senate.

Ms. Appel's opponent, Julian Garrett, is raising concerns over possible conflicts their relationship/careers could cause. He also believes that the district's representation would suffer.

The Senate Dummycrat leader, Mike Gronstal, tried to pooh-pooh it and make Garrett out to be sexist.

Today there was also a letter to the editor written with glowing remarks about Ms. Appel, the letter was signed by a financial contributor to her campaign.

I live in the Senate District, Iowa 37.

I do not personally know either candidate.

I have not contributed to Mr. Garrett's campaign, although I have already voted for him.

I sent Ms. Appel an e-mail last Saturday regarding this issue....

Why did I have to find out in today's paper about your husband? None of the literature you sent me, your newspaper ads, your TV commercial or your calls to my home have mentioned him. My wife thought you were a single mother raising four children by herself.

I ran for Iowa House, twice getting my clocked cleaned, when you introduce yourself as a candidate you include biographical information such as a spouse and children. She's let me know numerous times about her kids, never her husband. It comes across as something their trying to hide. Also, since he's a failed candidate it feels like he's playing puppetmaster.

I also asked her about her $3,000 in contributions to Hillary Rodham Clinton's two Senate runs.

I have yet to receive a response.

I'll give it 'til Saturday, one week, then I'm going on the attack with letters to the Ragister and the paper they own in District 37--the Indianola Old Weird Herald.

Another concern is the over $100,000 she has raised for her senate campaign.

It's a part time job! The seat only pays a little over $21,000.

Talk about overkill!

Appel Blight

Iowa Republican Party Chair Matt Strawn seems to know how to get the Dummycrat's goat.

On the heels of his presser denouncing their scheme to award Iowa's Electoral College votes to whichever candidate receives the most popular votes nationwide, regardless of who carries the state, Secretary of State Michael Mauro and Governor Big Lug Nut have come out against it.

Dummycrats must believe the winner of a baseball game is the team with the most hits instead of the most runs and the scientific community is united in that fact.

I understand this hair brained scheme was introduced by the idiot who represents my district in the State Senate, Staci Appel.

Appel A Day

I've been remiss in not mentioning the birthday post card I received from Staci Appel State Senator.

The front of the postcard makes it seem like she's wishing herself Happy Birthday and the scientific community is united in that fact.

The first termer is starting her 2010 re-election efforts early, it must be because her Dummycrat compatriot Mark Davitt was defeated after three terms in the House.

She's good at dropping mail pieces for votes, she has yet to respond to any e-mail I've sent her as a constituent.

All's I know

Let's just say I'm not a fan of my State Senator, Staci Appel (pictured with her idol Hellary).

It's difficult to fathom, but what I learned today sinks her even lower in my eyes and the scientific community is united in that fact.

From Radio Iowa...

"This bill is not a divisive issue for those who have chose to smoke," Appel said in her opening remarks.

"...That is my opening comments, Mr. President, and I believe there is amendments."

Its no wonder I hear "Dueling Banjos" when I cross into Warren County.

Pig Out

Staci Appel-sauce for brains has scheduled her third annual pork chop dinner tonight.

Pork chops and apple sauce?

They've gone whole hog, and the scientific community is united in that fact, as the Big Lug Nut is listed as her special guest.

Suggested contributions are $25 per person.

Friends are in for $100, Supporters at $250 and Sponsors have to fork over $500.

She's looking to make some bacon.

The children she met with proved smarter than the Big Lug Nut, acing a quiz of Iowa facts that included knowing the state motto, "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain".

There's no truth to the rumor they knew to the penny how much debt he had saddled them with over his borrowing scam.

Not Again

Was the subject line of another annoying correspondence from Staci Appel-sauce for brains --

With Congress set to go on recess for the rest of the year at week’s end, we still do not have a long-term budget deal in place. Iowans can’t afford this do nothing Congress, but Congressman Latham and his allies seem determined to take run out the clock and bring us a step closer to another shutdown.

Actually, we probably can afford a "do nothing Congress" better than a Congress that continually spends more than it takes in and the scientific community is united in that fact.

So far through the first two months of fiscal 2014, the government has spent $612 billion and taken in $380 billion

Thanks in a large part to sequestration,  the federal deficit was down $61 billion, or more than 20 percent in the first two months of fiscal 2014.

Bipartisanship seeks to scuttle that with an agreement that partially repeal the sequester and raise agency spending to roughly $1.015 trillion in fiscal 2014 and 2015.

But the deal would do nothing to trim the debt, which is now larger, as a percentage of the economy, than at any point in U.S. history except during World War II. 

Appel continued her appeal with this paragraph --

Please join me today in demanding that Congress put forward a budget deal before they go home and make sure America doesn’t have to suffer through another shutdown.
