The Florida Legislature's decision Thursday to move the state's presidential primary to Jan. 29 makes it more likely that Iowa's leadoff caucuses will be forced earlier--

...Florida's decision to vault its primary from its traditional date in March to within 15 days of the caucuses violates rules by the Democratic National Committee barring any state except Iowa, New Hampshire and two others from holding contests before Feb. 5.

We're stunned Dummycrats are violating the rules and the scientific community is united in that fact.

...Iowa law requires that the caucuses be the nation's first nominating contest. Iowa Democrats and Republicans had jointly agreed to hold their caucuses on the same day. Any move would affect both parties.

My tongue wasn't so firmly planted in my cheek with the December suggestion.

Hell we're having debates already.

Dean's The Scream

Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, stopped by the offices of the liberal American Prospect for lunch last week, and according to the Propsect's Tapped blog, Salon's Walter Shaprio had this exchange with him:

Shapiro: Governor, from where you sit, is the fact that there will be two caucuses between the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary a done deal, or is this still open for negotiation, as to whether there will be caucuses and/or whether New Hampshire will have its traditional unmolested Iowa/New Hampshire role in American history?

Dean: We don't molest anybody. We leave that to the deputy press secretary of the Homeland Security agency.

Dean's reference is to Brian Doyle, who was arrested this month for allegedly sending sexually explicit emails to a "14-year-old girl" who was actually a police detective. Blogger Kevin Aylward notes that this case has gotten lots of attention from liberal bloggers, "heaping generous portions of blame on the Bush administration."

But it turns out, also according to Aylward, that Doyle is a career civil servant and a registered Democrat! Dean's little joke is not only tasteless but is at the expense of his own party.

I still have the visual of Iowa's own CommieTommie Harkin standing behind Dean caucus night 2004, when Howard let her rip...HEYAWWWWWWWWW! As Ron White would say; He had the right to remain silent, but he didn't have the ability!

Where The Streets Have No Name

I couldn't help but be stunned by the opening paragraph of a recent Los Angeles Times story about Herman Cain.

Reporting from Story City, Iowa— Herman Cain, a retired businessman who rescued the Godfather's Pizza chain from peril in the late '80s, was holding his final meet-and-greet of the day at the Royal Cafe, a modest restaurant with a retirement home on its second floor. Earlier that day, he'd visited a firehouse in Iowa Falls and a "tea party" gathering in Marshallville.

Marshallville?

Iowa?

The writer, Robin Abcarian, either didn't go to the "tea party gathering", or Iowa doesn't matter to the left coast.

I'm betting both and the scientific community is united in that fact.

By checking the Candidate Calendar at the Des Moines Register's 2012 Iowa Caucuses page, the Liter learned that Cain was in Story City, Iowa Falls and Marshalltown on June 22.






Also note, the date of the story was July 7.

The time difference between Los Angeles and Iowa is two hours, not two weeks.

It's a strange and over-the-top campaign ad that is reminiscent of the more messianic proclamations of our current president.

Occupy Des Moines warns insurer: Drop premiums or else

About a dozen Occupy Iowa/Des Moines protesters delivered a letter addressed to John Forsyth, chairman of Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

In the letter the Occupy-errs state -- Enough is enough. It’s time to put people before profits. It’s time to put patients first. Consider yourselves on notice.”

The letter doesn’t specify what will happen to the insurer if it ignores the notice.

Leaving themselves in a whole lot of trouble if something were to happen at Wellmark.

These societal misfits are also disputing reports that their attempts to Occupy the Cauc-eye are going more or less unanswered.

Occupy Des Moines protester Jessica Mazour traveled to New York and Washington D.C. earlier this month and found receptive audiences in both cities to the idea of demonstrating in Iowa.

“They were really excited. There was tons of twinkle fingers and yelling and cheering,” she said, referring to the hand gestures Occupy protesters use to signify agreement.

I've been attending contested caucuses since 1988 and this is only the second time a candidate I voted for (Mitt Romney) won the evening, George W. Bush was the other in 2000.

Thankfully, just like the candidate himself, a majority of Iowans can't really see Ron Paul in the Oval Office either.

In other TOOL news --

Des Moines police have spent about $75,000 dealing with Occupy Des Moines related protests since the movement started at the beginning of October.

Des Moines-area authorities have made more than 100 Occupy-related arrests since October. Des Moines police were responsible for 35 of those arrests, with at least 27 coming in the last week as part of the group’s caucus protests.

The $75,000 includes only Des Moines police and does not count money spent by Ankeny, Clive, Urbandale and West Des Moines police, or the Iowa State Patrol, all of whom have also made Occupy-related arrests.

Not sure if that includes the previous $10,000 figure that was reported.

Just like the word, Occupy jumped the shark in 2011 and needs banishment.

The Difference?

An anarchist-style movement is urging its supporters to shut down the Iowa caucuses, but Occupy Iowa/Des Moines says it's different than their Occupy the Cauc-eye.

There are differences?

Neither group has formal leadership and both are considered to be more of a movement than an organization.

Both claim to be operating peacefully.

One claims, “The primaries and caucuses put on by these parties are part of an elaborate scam that deceives the public into voting for candidates that serve the private interests of the mega corporations. These parties have deliberately driven tens of millions of people into poverty.”

The other has deep concerns about whether the majority of Iowans are truly represented at what is often touted as a grass-roots event.

“This is not, in fact, a valid medium for the concerns of many”.

One is a group of hackers and the other a group of slackers, no difference there and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Even "Dumbass" and professional protester David Goodner says, “There might be some overlap” in what the groups believe.

Caucus Concert

I think the reaction to the idea of a celebration of the Iowa Caucuses was just a little harsh.

Because you read "like" or "such as" Britney Spears doesn't mean that bimbo is who they're after to appear.

Unfortunately, that's how too many people talk today.

David Yepsen went a little off the deep end when he said it would, "denigrate and cheapen what should be the serious business of selecting candidates for the American presidency."

I like David, even when we disagree, but I've attended caucuses since 1988 and they're not as pristine as people believe.

A majority of those in attendance are there to support a candidate for President and leave when that portion of the evening is completed.

Most people don't know they're held every two years with the purpose of conducting party business, such as platform issues and county convention delegates, at a local level.

They've been carried live on C-Span for crying out loud, for the most part it's boring!

The Ragister's Kyle Munson was against it.

Which means if that no talent is against it, on principle I have to be for it. Just like if he's for something I'm against it....similar to my stand on Ragister issues.

These are the same people who complain constantly about how boring Iowa is and how we need to get more young people involved in the political process.

I think MTV's "Rock the Vote" and P-Dummy with his "Vote or Die" T-shirt/campaign are what really cheapens and denigrates the entire political process.

If they can make this concert along the lines of the Kennedy Center Honors, then it would be classy and entertaining.

I do think it would be silly to follow too many of Terry Rich's ideas, he told WHO-TV/Channel 13
that they would have the Dummycrat candidates in the front row on one side and Republicans in the front on the other side as a way of thanking them for running....That's Hokey!

The best part is it wouldn't cost Iowans anything.

You can't say that about a lot of what gets proposed in this state.

Iowa's goober, Chester Culver, has said he'll do whatever it takes to keep the Iowa Caucuses the first in the nation.

I'm not sure he's willing to go to war with the other 49 states, but it sounds good.

What doesn't sound good is this...

In Des Moines, Iowa communications director, Erin Seidler, put out a memo stating --

“You can see from the pictures below, even at the height of the Iowa caucuses, the Romney campaign can’t compete with the organization we are building in the state now”.

As we noted last month (Winning?), when the Obama-mites opened shop in the onetime Blockbuster Video location, that Obama was coming in second to Mitt Romney.

Seidler (pictured) must not be feeling good about her, or her bosses future, as she has lined up a gig four days after the election.

On November 10, Seidler will act as a guide for building support for the arts and entertainment industry with strategic communication and grassroots efforts.

Given the campaigns Seidler's previously associated herself with, the Big Lug Nut and Becky Greenwald, I can see why she's already got a contingency plan and the scientific community is united in that fact.

Nationally, Obama's campaign staffers are seeing things -- in beer.

I may be a bad Iowan for this (and the scientific community is united in that fact).

I've booked a January 2008 vacation in Maui, our 15th straight year there.

It means if the caucuses remain as scheduled that Chris & I won't be attending.

All things considered, I'll be there on my 50th and it is winter in Iowa, I'd rather be in Maui.

Enough Already!

Even in Iowa -- or maybe especially in Iowa -- American voters are saying it.

Enough with the candidates, the money, the television commercials, the talk of the campaign on the newspapers in the nightly news per the NEW YORK TIMES.

According to newsroom sources, many Iowans tell the NEW YORK TIMES how all of this is just too much, too soon, and a little overwhelming.

"I'd like a two-week moratorium on this," Scott Roberts said in Clear Lake as he observed what normally is modest if energetic Independence Day parade crammed with observers, reporters and Secret Service agents as first Bill and Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney came through.

Several said they were worried that people would lose interest by the time the campaign actually started.

I've said all along that it was too much too soon.

Actually I'm sitting this caucus out as a protest to the over abundance of political activity.

It'll be a struggle, but I'll be making the sacrifice.

Think of it as civil disobedience.

Roswell incident not explained to Richardson's satisfaction

Richardson, the governor of New Mexico, called on the government to declassify all Roswell documents. He brought it up himself when Chris Matthews was joking about Kucinich's UFO answer. He said the government hasn't "come clean" on the issue.

It appears he wasn't joking about that, just like he wasn't joking about the Iowa Caucuses, and is pandering to the looniest fraction of the loony left.

Iowa Dummycrats have never selected a candidate, in a contested caucus, who's gone on to win the White House.

Many believe that honor(?) went to Jimmy Carter in 1976, with 28%, but the big winner that night was ANYBODY BUT with 70 plus percent!

There was LOTS of food, freebies, some celebrities and 25,000 people(8 years of Clinton/Gore helped spur that).

The only down side was standing in long lines to vote.

The Iowa Republican Party has selected Aug. 11, 2007, as the date for the Ames straw poll - a signature event for GOP presidential candidates running in the state's leadoff nominating caucuses.

The event, a party fundraiser that includes an early showing of candidate support, is planned for Iowa State University's Hilton Coliseum.

It's a good thing I've got time to ponder if I'll take Rudy, Romney or who knows?

Only 1.5 percent of the new voter identification cards mailed to voters who registered on caucus night were returned to county auditors as undeliverable.

That's still too high!
